JENNIFER ARNOLD will discuss
Through a Dog's Eyes
Tuesday, October 5 at 7 PM
Meet dog trainer Jennifer Arnold, founder and executive director of Canine Assistants, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing service dogs for people with disabilities. After 20 years' experience, Arnold shares her wisdom and training method in her book, Through a Dog's Eyes. Her unique approach is based on teaching dogs to make choices - as opposed to following commands - through kindness and encouragement, rather than fear and submission. Her results are extraordinary.
Arnold's experience shows that dogs are extremely trusting beings attuned to their owners' needs, and they aim to please. The relationship between dogs and humans goes awry, she says, when we fail to understand our dogs and when we send them confusing, mixed signals. Through a Dog's Eyes shows the way dogs see the world, and may change the way we understand and communicate with our dogs.
“Engagingly written with a perfect balance of science and observation, this book – soon to be a PBS one hour special and series – is a worthy tribute to our canine friends.” — Publishers Weekly
