Important news on the car park

Since we arranged the public meeting on Sunday 17th April there have been developments. The Department of Lands wrote to Pittwater Council on 14th March 2005 regarding the Church Point car park.  For off shore residents the two key issues  in the letter were as follows:

…In developing a Plan of Management [for Church Point] recommendations must be made for cessation of long term parking at ground level on the Church Point Reserve effective form 30 June 2007…

…If Council were to introduce the parking fee [ as now charged to all visitors to the park] to all users of Church Point and Pittwater Park the Minister would consider issuing a directive under the said Act (S106 refers) to both trusts to allow these funds to be used for the development of a PoM [Plan of Management] for both reserves…

The Pittwater Council’s reply to the Department of Lands stated that this is unfair because off shore residents already pay for the car park through Council rates.

These matters will be raised at the forthcoming meeting of Council on Monday April 11 at 6.00 pm.  Members of the SIRA committee will attend the meeting and have sought leave to represent the community by addressing the meeting.  You can attend the meeting if you would like to.

Details of the meeting, including copies of both letters in full, were posted on the Council website yesterday and can be accessed by clicking here

DO NOT PANIC

At this stage we need cool heads. SIRA and other off shore residents associations are planning actions to ensure that our communities will have ongoing equity of access to their homes.  We have been examining our legal redress to this iniquity and we will also be mounting strong publicity and advocacy campaigns.

We will need everyone’s help. You can best work with us to win this campaign by attending the
