NAB LOGO
5:00-7:00 p.m. Books on the Square
471 Angell St. Providence, RI

Join NABA and Brown University Manning Assistant Professor of American and Ethnic Studies Elizabeth Hoover (MA'03 PhD'10) for the release of her first book, "'The River Is in Us:' Fighting Toxics in a Mohawk Community," an ethnographic exploration of Akwesasne Mohawks' response to Superfund contamination and environmental health research.

Books on the Square is located in Wayland Square, a short 10-minute (.5 mi.) walk from the corner of Thayer and Angell Streets. Free 2-3 hour parking is available on Angell and Medway Streets, or Wayland and Elmgrove Avenues.

Visit our event page on Facebook for links to Haudenosaunee music and water songs, a special menu from Taste of Native Cuisine, and more photos and book info. We're hosting special guests -- elders, singers, and artists -- from Akwesasne, and we've also been busy reaching out to the local Native community and local alumni for the past month so we anticipate a fantastic turnout!

Would you like to share your current community work and skills with our growing Native alumni community -- now over 150 members strong? You can collaborate with other alumni to run our NABA Facebook page, help develop a NABA website, mobilize and share internship opportunities for current NAB undergrads, or plan and host student-alumni discussions like last Spring's book talk with Dr. Makini Chisolm-Straker '05 MD '09, and Judge Erin Shanley '02, organized to mark the release of Dr. Chisolm-Straker's new co-edited volume, Human Trafficking is a Public Health Issue: A Paradigm Expansion in the United States.

Or, if you'd like to host a local or regional alumni gathering or assist with recruiting new undergraduates anytime soon, please be in touch!

NABA Executive Committee Retreat
At last Fall's first annual retreat, held Saturday, November 19, 2016, we met to outline our annual budget, learn about the progress of the Native American and Indigenous Studies Initiative and director search, and to prepare a NABA Mission Statement. Planning is currently underway for Spring events on- and off-campus, Commencement activities, and more. If you'd like to join us at our next retreat -- or to participate via conference call -- reach out!

Many thanks,
