Hello Firstname
Happy New Year
Wednesday 2 January
I hope that you've got through the festivities OK and that you will have got rid of any New Year's hangover by next Wednesday when we start 2013 with a presentation by Fran Hansall BA Hons, LBIPP entitled "British Landscapes". Fran has worked as a professional photographer, writer and tutor since 2004 and she has spent the last 8 years creating high-quality images of locations and subjects throughout the British Isles. If you want to find out more about Fran I suggest that you look at her website which can be found at http://fran-halsall.co.uk/. This is certainly an evening for us lesser mortals who prefer to stay on home soil for our photography.

Possible New Premises - Update from the Chairman
At the end of November, members were sent a short email concerning a possible new location for BPS. Council have viewed the property in question and have decided that it is not suitable for our requirements and that we will not proceed further with this. Council will issue a more detailed report shortly.

Traditional Photographic Courses - Correction
This item was in the last issue of the Newsletter. Unfortunately, if you had followed the links, the times shown for the Traditional Photography for Beginners were incorrect and should have read 6.30 - 9.00 and not 6.00 - 8.30 as shown.
St Pauls Darkrooms is running a series of courses on traditional photography during January and February which might prove of enterest to members. The courses cover subjects ranging from getting to know your camera through traditional darkroom techniques to basic studo lighting. Details can be seen by following this link.

Paul Foley at Kingswood PS
Kingswood Photographic Society is delighted to start their 2013 programme with a visit from Paul Foley FRPS, EFIAP, MPAGB on Friday 4th January, 2013.  The title of Paul’s talk is Simply Passion and Good Fortune.

Paul will give a personal interpretation of his three favourite locations, Tuscany, Colorado and Yellowstone. We know that we are in for a real treat as Paul has a unique way of capturing on slide film the beauty, details and moods found in these wild and lonely places .

This promises to be an absolutely superb evening. KPS meet at St Barnabas Church Hall, Warmley, BS30 5JJ. Visitors are welcome, the cost for this evening is £3.

Up, Close & Personal
Up, Close and Personal is an exhibition of portrait photographs by BPS member Tony Gill which he hopes you  will come and see. It's on at “Photographique” from Wednesday 2 January 2013 until Saturday 2 February.
The exhibition is Tony's attempt to raise some questions about the ubiquitous nature of photographic portraits and express delight about well-being “Up, Close and Personal”. Sometimes odd angles are chosen and sometimes negatives are marked, altered, even scratched in order to hold your attention.
Photographique is at 27, Clare St. Bristol, BS1 1XA (tel. 0117 930 0622 ) and is close to St. Stephens Church. Opening hours Mon to Sat, 10am to 6pm. (see www.photographique.co.uk or contact@photographique.co.uk or twitter:@photosuk )

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
A few weeks back I mentioned that Andrew Wood had an accepted print in the RPS International Print Exhibition at Frome, what I should also have mentioned was that another BPS member had a print accepted, namely David Cooke and his print "The man on the bus" - well done and sorry for the omission.

If you want to blow your own trumpet or, dare I say such a thing, blow someone else's trumpet for them, then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include it in the next issue.
