Native Plant Conservation Campaign News:  NSF Funding for Herbaria and other Biological Collections restored.

In April, NPCC News reported that the National Science Foundation (NSF) was indefinitely suspending funding for the Collections in Support of Biological Research (CSBR) Program. This Program is one of very few funding sources that help maintain biological specimen collections such as herbaria and seed collections.

 

The Native Plant Conservation Campaign, the American Institute of Biological Sciences and others sent NSF expressions of concern about the potential loss of these valuable and irreplaceable resources.

 

In October, in response to these concerns, the NSF announced that funding for the CSBR Program has been restored, at least for the time being. New proposals will be considered in 2017.
