Psalm 50:14-15 Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.

GOD WANTS TO HELP

All parents have watched a child of theirs really struggle with something. Sometimes our youngest will be trying to do something that he just can't do. The problem is, when my wife reaches out a hand and says, "I will help you," he responds, "No! I want to do it myself!" It can be very frustrating for parents to hear this when they know their child desperately needs their help.

Imagine what God must think sometimes when He reaches down to deliver us from some evil and we respond by saying, "No! I don't want to listen to you! I want to work this out myself!" It must hurt our Lord who loves us. For really there is nothing else that our God would rather do than help us. It is what He is all about! It was God who miraculously sent manna and quail into the wilderness for the Israelites to eat. It was God who stopped the mouths of the lions so Daniel could leap from the den unharmed. And it was God too who said to Martha at the tomb of her brother Lazarus, "Your brother will rise again ... I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die." We can rightly say that God is in the business of deliverance! And what is even more astounding: He wants to help the likes of us!

So how can we best show the great Deliverer that we appreciate what He does? Take Him up on it! Let Him deliver! Call upon Him in the day of trouble--trouble over your sins, trouble over your doubts, trouble over your earthly life, trouble over anything. What better way to express our thanks for His willingness to deliver us than to say to Him, "Help me again!"
