PEACE PLINTHS FROM TRAFALGUR SQUARE RETURN FOR GALLERY EXHIBITION.
Which candidate, Mitt Romney or Barack Obama, would be more likely to go to war against Iran if he wins the presidency in November?
It is in reaction to such imminent conflict that is the inspiration behind Art Below’s ‘Peace Project’, a collaboration between peace activists and contemporary artists.
Taking center stage of the week long exhibiton starting 12th October at London’s ‘Gallery Different’
(Off Tott Ct Rd)
will be the 2 ‘Peace Plinths’ that have stood outside the Houses of Parliament since 2009 and have become icons of peaceful protest.  Artists including Alison Jackson, Billy Childish, kennardphillipps, Sarah Maple and Inkie have come together in support of The Peace Project through their art.  Proceeds of selected works will go to The Halabja Community Playground Project in Northern Iraq. During the one week show there will be a series of talks panelled by peace campaigner and founder of the Peace Plinths Maria Gallastegui, Tam Carrigan, and Simon Moore who recently became the first person in Britain to be awarded a full 2 year ASBO for peaceful protest. Selected works in the show will also form part of Art Below’s billboard exhibition at Regent’s Park tube station throughout October. This coincides with the Frieze Art Fair (11th -14th October) in Regent’s Park.
