There will be no newsletter next week as I will be away, so this edition carries details of the programme for the coming two weeks.
|
Next Wednesday, 26 June sees the evening to satisfy both print and projected image workers, when we have the President's Cup and Garmston Bowl competitions. These are being judged by BPS member, Mike Dales ARPS CPAGB. For those of you who are not familiar with these two competitions, here is a brief description of both:
Garmston Bowl - This is a print competition that is open to all members and is for a panel of five related prints on any subject. They are judged as a panel.
President's Cup - This is a projected image competition and is for a panel of three related images on any subject. They will be judged as a panel. Unlike the Garmston Bowl, this competition is open to all members, excluding holders of ARPS, EFIAP, DPAGB and EPSA and higher distinctions, together with winners of the cup in the last three years.

An "open letter" from Bob Faris
The Trophy
Back in January of this year, I wrote in the BPS newsletter (Issue 319, Wed 16 Jan) concerning the origins of the Creative Photography competition. I am now pleased to say that the trophy for the competition has been manufactured and we have collected it. When I say we, it is Pete Howell that I refer to. Pete's played a great and important part in getting this trophy made and I am greatly indebted to him. Thank you Pete.
When I accepted the invitation to sponsor this competition I thought it incumbent upon me to provide an appropriately 'creative' trophy, and immediately there was a problem. Where does one find such a thing? I asked Pete for help and together we trawled the Internet, but no such object seemed to exist. I had no option, I had to design one and get it manufactured. There was then, another problem, where could I get it made? Pete again came to the rescue and found a possible manufacturer which we visited. The Production Team having examined my drawings said there were no problems and I gave them the go-ahead. From then on Pete acted as liaison between the manufacturers and me.
When Pete puts this into the Newsletter, I hope there will be a photo of the finished trophy available.
The trophy is in two parts, an acrylic sculpture which sits on top of an oak base that has an acrylic top surface. Acrylic is a synthetic resin material, sometimes called 'Perspex' and is as clear as glass. The sculpture is of three columns, one square, one round and one triangular on a circular base. To discover the significance of the trophy's design, you will have to come along to the competition on 3rd July!
I hope you will consider this Creative Trophy fit for purpose.
Bob

PAGB Inter-Club PDI Competition |
The following images have been selected to represent BPS at the forthcoming PAGB Inter-Club PDI Competition. These images will form the "bank" of 40 images from which the final images will be selected, selection will depend very much on the way the judges are scoring, so a good deal of gamesmanship is employed on the day. See the article further on for details of howw to get tickets for the day.

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
|
Would all members please note: before you plan your shoot and book your model, you should check whether the studio/clubroom will be free. This can be done easily and at any time by viewing the Clubroom Bookings calendar in the Members' Area of the BPS Website. Bookings can must be made by contacting Mike Bigger at bookings@bristolphoto.org.uk.
Log in details to the Members' Area are at the end of this newsletter.
|
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk
The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, if they are wrong, please let Carol know.
