1 John 2:1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

AND HE SHALL BE CALLED "ADVOCATE"

The Apostle John wrote this letter to encourage Christians to avoid sinning. John's point is that Christians have come to know God! God even calls us His children! If we are God's children then we should obey God. We should try to act like God wants us too.

John writes that if a person says, "I believe in Jesus", but doesn't keep trying to do what Jesus says, that person is a liar (1 Jn 2:4). But we still sin don't we. Does that mean that we're not Christians? NO. The Devil wants us to think like that, but it's not the truth.

An "Advocate" is someone who sticks up for someone else. Jesus sticks up for you and me when the Devil says that we're sinners who deserve to go to hell. Jesus sticks up for you and me. He says, "Yes, these guys are sinners just like all people are sinners, but they are forgiven sinners."
Jesus says, "I suffered and died for them. I paid the price for their sins. I lived a righteous life and I gave my perfect life to them."

Because Jesus is on our side, God the Father is on our side too. And the Devil can't say anything that will stop God from loving us. You don't ever need to be afraid that God will punish you for your sins, because Jesus has saved you.

He has stuck up for and still does. Jesus is our Advocate.
