McCarrs Creek Road & West Head Road Works

Downer EDI are planning to undertake planned maintenance work on roads in your area in late September, October and November on behalf of Roads and Maritime Services (RMS).

This initial contact is to provide you an overview of our planned work and allow you to provide comment regarding access to your premises/business.

The proposed road work in September and October 2013 is planned for the following roads:
  • McCarrs Creek Road between Mona Vale Road and McCarrs Creek Reserve, and
  • West Head Road, between McCarrs Creek Road and Liberator General San Martin Drive (Refer attached Map HERE).
The road work requires the replacement of the asphalt road surface and structural strengthening to the roads and is tentatively scheduled to start on Sunday 29 September 2013. The work is scheduled to take approximately 20 days to complete over four weeks, weather permitting. The majority of the work would be undertaken during the day under full or part road closures.

We are currently finalising traffic management for the road work and plan to close sections of McCarrs Creek Road to undertake the work in a safe and efficient manner.

Sections of McCarrs Creek Road & West Head Road which are planned for closure are as follows:
  1. McCarrs Creek Road roundabout with Mona Vale Road is proposed to be undertaken at night with local detours in place.
  2. McCarrs Creek Road (link 40), between Yulong Avenue and Liberator General San Martin Drive is proposed to be closed to traffic and detours proposed via Mona Vale Road and Pittwater Road.
  3. McCarrs Creek Road (link 30), between Liberator General San Martin Drive and West Head Road is proposed to be closed to traffic and detours provided via Liberator General San Martin (i.e. Akuna Bay).
  4. McCarrs Creek Road (link 26), between West Head Road and McCarrs Creek Reserve is proposed to be closed to traffic and detours proposed via Pittwater Road and Mona Vale Road.
  5. West Head Road, between McCarrs Creek Road and Liberator General San Martin  Drive is proposed to be closed to traffic and detours proposed via Liberator General San Martin Drive (i.e. Akuna Bay).
Each full road closure is expected to be in place for a minimum of five days with work occurring only from Monday to Friday between the hours of 6.30 am and 5.30 pm.

Please note that all emergency vehicles and residents who reside on McCarrs Creek Road will be given access at all times. Minimal closures will take place during school holiday periods.

Further planned work is scheduled to resurface Liberator General San Martin Drive between late October and early November 2013.  We will be in touch closer to the date to discuss this work.

Before further plans are developed we’d like to hear your views around access and scheduling.

Please email or phone with feedback and suggestions prior to Tuesday 10 September 2013.

Island Thinking presents
THE INNER CHILD

Guided by Paul Kininmonth, a father, primary school teacher and island resident, we explore the journey and development of the inner child. What was and is our experience of this inner child? And how can this child still enliven and uplift our grown-up world? Insights from the Shankaracharya, Christ and Rudolf Steiner will further enlighten our discussion.

About Paul:
Paul's professional life has been in the company of children, initially as an au pair, then as a vacation and after-school care coordinator. After two years as a drama coach he took up primary school teaching in 2000. Concurrent with his professional journey he has run a spiritual path of personal growth and integration. It is through the Inner Child work that he finds those two paths merging.

Date:   Saturday, 21 September 2013, 7.30 pm
Place:   10 Thompson Street, Scotland Island (Lot 332)
10 Thompson St (previously owned by Jim Hinckley) is between Paris and Mandy's house (Trudy Engler’s old house) and Chris Hampshire's house (formerly Luke and Claire). It can be accessed from below (Thompson St) or from the fire trail that starts behind the fire shed. If coming up the fire trail, number 10 is the second house on the left after the first, steep hairpin bend. Please beware of numerous trip hazards on the rear path.

Please bring: something to drink and a plate of food to share (finger food only, please).

RSVP to roybaker99@yahoo.com. Please also let me know if you would like to be put on the Island Thinking email list. (If you have not received previous notifications about this talk then you are probably not on the list.)

WOW September Lunch
Antonia Kitching's: Seed FreedomMovement

I'd just like to remind everyone of our upcoming WOW lunch at Antonia Kitching's (pink cement house above Halls wharf), from 12 noon (ferry arrives at 11.45pm) this Friday 20th September, which promises to be a thought-provoking and interesting event. RSVP's required ASAP as numbers are limited to 14 for this one.

Antonia has asked if everyone could go the following website www.vandanashiva.org/navdanya before the event, to understand the importance of bio-diversity, and also to become more aware about what we are buying at the supermarket.

Cheers,
Jenny Frazer :)

Mooring pole and float - found it?

My mooring off the south west corner of the island went walk about sometime between Sunday 8 and 10th October. The mooring had a 1.2 meter upright pole (with float), the usual yellow mooring buoy (licence number IL098) and a bridle.

It appears that it may have had an argument with a boat prop!

If anybody has found it, please contact Peter on 0428644976. If someone has run over it; has the equipment and feels a bit guilty, it can be dropped of on my jetty (first boat house south of cargo wharf --grey roof - white windows) - no questions asked.

Rowing Dory ?
Over the years I have noticed a seemingly deserted white rowing dory lying upside down in the reserve next to Carol’s Wharf.

I would be grateful if anyone could put me in touch with the owner.
