Psalm 119:123-125 My eyes fail, looking for your salvation, looking for your righteous promise. Deal with your servant according to your love and teach me your decrees. I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.

LOVE CREATES DEDICATION

The writer of Psalm 119 has been waiting for the LORD to rescue him for so long that he can't stay awake. His eyes grow tired waiting for the promise of God to be kept; waiting for his rescue to come. But what does he do? Does he abandon the LORD and seek help from elsewhere? No! He prays that God would teach Him how better to understand God's Word, so that He might continue to wait faithfully for God's sure promises to be kept.

Listen to some of the lover's words that the writer directs to the LORD in Psalm 119:

"I delight in your decrees . . ." (16).

"My soul is consumed with longing for your laws at all times" (20).

"I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free" (32).

"Your decrees are the theme of my song wherever I lodge" (54).

"How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!" (103).

"I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold" (127).

"I love your law" (113).

What makes this believer so dedicated to the LORD? Love. Love for God. Love for all that God is and says. Love for God created by God's love for Him.

"We love Him because He first loved us" (1 John 4:19).
