Hello Firstname

Wednesday 3 April
This Wednesday, Wildlife photographer Peter Preece visits Bristol to give his talk entitled "Every Picture tells a Story". You can get some idea of what the talk will contain by visiting Peter's website http://www.peterpreece.com

DI Group
Your BPS Handbook shows that the next DI Group meeting is on Monday 1 April - well, you can consider that as a bit of an April Fool as unfortunately Ashwin has had to cancel April's meeting. The usual date of the second Monday in the month had already been changed as it clashed with the Bristol Salon judging weekend (4 days) and when this year's Programme was finalised nobody twigged that the alternative date was in fact Easter Monday and that many people may well be away on Easter Egg hunts. So, sorry to say, you'll have to wait until 13 May to sample Ashwin's chocky biscuits again.

Projected Image Competition - Round 4
Last Wednesday saw the final round of the Projected Image Competition. The judge for the night was scheduled to be John Cartlidge from the Midlands. However, unseasonal snow forced him to cancel his visit at the last minute and our own Pete McCloskey stepped into the breach to save the evening. John had sent his results through, together with  very brief comments about each image; Pete read out these comments but added his own to make it a very enjoyable and, with a certain amount of barracking from the floor, interesting evening

Bristol Salon - Judging Weekend
Next weekend, Friday 5 April - Monday 8 April sees the judging of the 2013 Bristol Salon. This year we have received over 13,000 images from more than 1,600 photographers from 71 different countries. The images are divided into 3 different categories, Open, Photo Travel and Nature and each category will be judged by a panel of 3 eminent photographers. We need help during these 4 days with a bit of button pushing on the computer and I have put a timetable for the 4 days on the display board in the clubrooms (broken down into 45 minute time slots) and would appreciate members signing up to help with this task, please put your name against vacant time slots where you can help.
Members are also welcome to drop in at any time during the weekend to watch the proceedings.
If you have any questions about the weekend, feel free to email me at salon@bristolphoto.org.uk

Software Price Reductions
I'm indebted to member Steve Newman for letting me know about the following software bargain.

Google have recently purchased the Nik Software company and as a result have slashed the price of their suite of desktop photography software. The suite is now on sale through the Google website for the knockdown price of $149 which is less than £100, a huge reduction compared the previous "arm & a leg" price. Just follow this link to save a whopping 70% (no, I don't work for DFS!)

Downend Camera Club
We have received the following from Downend Camera Club:

Please could you let your members know about the speaker we have at Downend Camera Club Tuesday 9th April. His name is Dave Mason and he specialises in Street Photography. http://www.davemasonimages.com/
It promises to be an entertaining evening and we would welcome any non members who wish to join us for the evening.
The evening will start promptly at 8.00 with a break for tea/coffee (there is a charge of £1) and a finish time of 10.00 pm.

Photographic Distinctions
If your photographic distinctions are different from those shown at the top of this newsletter, could you please let Carol know by emailing her at the usual address: secretary@bristolphoto.org.uk

Items For Sale
If you have something photographic that you want to sell, why not let me have details and I can circulate them to a captive audience of photographers through the Newsletter - send to the usual address.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
A veritable clarion call this week: congratulations to Greg Duncan and to Beryl Heaton. Greg for reaching the PSA PID 4* and the BPE 1* standards and Beryl for becoming an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society - well done to both.

If you want to blow your own trumpet or, dare I say such a thing, blow someone else's trumpet for them, then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include it in the next issue.
