Helen Arney News, November 2012

Hello new newsletterers, and hello old friends. Last one of these for 2012, with things to watch on TV, things to hear online, things to give for Christmas, and things to get for yourself, if you want them...
Discovery Channel series - starts tomorrow!
I'm co-presenting a new science series for Discovery, on Wednesdays at 8pm - You Have Been Warned! That's not just a risk assessment, that's the name of the series... it's already gone out in Eastern Europe and Scandinavia, so apparently we are big in Romania, how delightful.

There's a facebook page to "like" and a bunch of clips on YouTube, including this one.

I'll be live-tweeting the first episode tomorrow night from 8pm. I hope anyone with Discovery-enabled TVs will tweet along too @helenarney and #YHBW
Helen Arney Songbook - pre-order by 10 Dec
I've finally found enough time to create something I get asked for at least once a week... a songbook!

It's the perfect gift for you, a loved one, or someone you feel indifferent about. I've taken 10 of my songs and turned them into a little book with all the words and chords you could possibly need to play them yourself on ukulele/guitar/piano/balalaika/theremin/whatever.

Here's the thing though: the more pre-orders I get before 10th December, the nicer the final book will be. So far 40 people have committed to buying it, so at the moment I'm preparing to load my library photocopier card and restocking my staplers... but if we can get 100 pre-orders I'll do a proper professional colour print run and it will be very very awesome.

Details are here - plus a free instant download of the "Voice of an Angle" EP with every pre-order. I'll sign all the copies and send them out on 13th December so you'll get yours before Christmas Day wherever you are in the world - with a few extra treats inside the envelope for being one of the early supporters...
Festival of the Spoken Nerd
Bloomsbury Theatre 21 + 22 Jan
It's that time of year again, when myself, Matt Parker and Steve Mould take over the Bloomsbury Theatre for another Festival of the Spoken Nerd.
We're doing 2 nights of our new show "Life, Oh Life" featuring comedian and Robot Woman of the Future Helen Keen, BBC3 presenter and Science Junkie Greg Foot, and UCL's Dr Jenny Rohn.
At a recent preview someone fainted. Out cold. That's how great this new show is. Tickets here.
Gigs around the UK
Now the Spoken Nerd tour is done and dusted (it was epic fun) I'm back to regular gigging around the place - see the pink box on the right for highlights, and full listings here. Gigs with particularly top line-ups are the End of the World Show at Hammersmith Apollo in December and - if we survive the Mayan apocalypse - Sex Appeal in January will also be excellent fun.

If you're not in London or one of the places listed, well, there's something you can do about that... find out who runs your local comedy night, science or comedy festival, fringe festival, arts venue, corporate party or whatever, and tell them about me. Also point them towards the email address on my website when you do it. At some point in the future hopefully I will rock up and play near you!
Online treats for everyone
  • Get 20% off "It's Going To Be An Awkward Christmas, Darling" on CD or digital download! • Science Grrl - the calendar is out! Take a look at Misses December here (more...)
