Ladies vs Gents

12 November sees the return of on old fixture to the BPS programme, the Ladies vs Gents Battle. This is not a "handbags at dawn" type battle, but a friendly, light-hearted Open projected image competition with the two sides, Ladies & Gents, battling it out on the night. (The subject changed from what was announced Wednesday evening to make it less restrictive.)

The judge is John Chamberlin, who will mark each entry out of 10, live on the night, and the victorious side will be crowned at the end of the evening.

Entry close Friday, 7 Nov at mid-night.

Each entrant can enter 2 images, please name the images as follows:

Studio Group
Monday 13 October
10am-1pm
Making a splash with a difference. Going to try capturing water splashing out of some glasses, etc.
If anyone has a kiddie's paddling pool, or fake ice cubes, please let Mike know, as that will allow us to get even more ambitious with our creations.
As before, bring tripods, close-up or standard lenses, flash guns, objects or fruit, to splash and perhaps a cocktail glass or two or any other container.

Monday 20 October
10am – 1pm
Halloween themed still life and or portraits of each other, maybe even both. Bring any spooky bits or costumes.  Mike will have his smoke machine.

Monday 27 October
Treble session special!
Michelle will be returning, joined by Anna, a fantastic make-up artist, for the whole day.  Some of you may recognise Michelle from the fake underwater shoot in August and Anna from large number of Mike’s photos including when she had paint poured over her! Anna now focuses on make-up for film and TV so Mike is excited to see what she can add to the party. This is your opportunity to see how working on a planned styled shoot with a collaborative team can elevate your photography, at a fraction of the cost of other workshops.
10am – 1pm
Theme to be determined.  Session open to all. No booking required. Cost £10
1:30pm – 4:30pm
Building upon the morning, this session is limited to 6 people - Booking essential. Cost £25 - only 3 spaces left.
7:00pm – 9:30pm

For any queries or bookings, please contact Mike:

West Bristol Arts Trail
The 18th West Bristol Arts Trail is one of the main artistic events in Bristol and will be held on the 11 and 12 October showcasing 150 artists at over 46 venues, often private homes and studios but also larger venues hosting multiple artists. This year it also features our own Derwood Pamphilon, who will be exhibiting his photographs at the Scout Hut, (venue 18), in Waterloo Street, Clifton.

Masters of Print

The PAGB Masters of Print (MoP) competition is currently open for entries. Information on the competition can be found at PAGB Masters of Print – The Photographic Alliance of Great Britain  Further links on that page provide the timetable and rules.

Prints must be on A3 paper and unmounted. As well as supplying the prints, digital versions have to be uploaded and labels downloaded, details of which are on the PAGB website.

Mike Martin and I are attending the PAGB Inter-Club Print event at Blackburn on 18 October. Print entries (with the PAGB labels) can be handed in at that event and we can deliver your entry for you. The labelled prints will need to be at the club house next Wednesday.

If you cannot get the prints to us in time then you can post your entries to the address shown on the website. It would make sense to coordinate entries and post them all as one package. There will be a box available at Unit 13 until 19 November.

You will see that there are 2 club awards. Club entrants will accrue points, and individual entrants will accrue points to their Club score for the Online Paper Gold Club Trophy for the Club who best supports the exhibition and the CEWE Diamond Club Award for the most successful Club.

BPS have won the Gold Club Award twice and we were runner up last year. To have a chance of winning it this year then we need as many members as possible to enter.

We would appreciate your support in this venture, and there is always the possibility that you can gain an acceptance. We have at least 9 members who have had acceptances in previous years including Gold Medal winners.
