Help Nelsy to fight cancer and save her life!

Please help us to raise funds to help Nelsy gain access to new treatment options in her battle against cancer.

Shortly after the birth of our baby daughter, my wife, Nelsy, was diagnosed with a rare type of bone cancer at the age of 29. For the last four years, she has been fighting for her life, undergoing multiple rounds of chemotherapy and two major surgeries, but now Nelsy is running out of options. In an attempt to save her, we hope to start a promising new treatment called immunotherapy that targets cancer cells more effectively than traditional methods. This treatment is very expensive, however, and only through your help will it be possible. Your donation will help Nelsy in her battle against cancer by contributing to medical and travel expenses associated with this treatment.

With love and tears of gratitude, Nelsy’s loving husband, Steeve, her daughter, Lily, and her family & friends.

Nelsy’s Story:

In 2011, a year after our wedding, my wife Nelsy and I moved to the U.S. so that I could pursue my scientific career at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, CA. Shortly thereafter, Nelsy was diagnosed with a rare type of bone cancer; an extraskeletal mesenchymal chondrosarcoma. This news was devastating, and it came at a particularly difficult time in Nelsy’s life as she had just begun a new life in a country where she barely knew anyone and was far away from her family, living in the French island Reunion and in France. Her diagnosis came just three months after our daughter, Lily, was born, making Nelsy’s survival a necessity, not only for herself, her family and friends, but also for our beloved newborn baby. For four years, Nelsy has been courageously fighting her cancer; however, despite multiple attempts to cure the sarcoma, Nelsy is not saved yet.

When I married Nelsy, I knew she was a caring and loving person, but I did not know the magnitude of her strength and determination, characteristics that she has demonstrated over and over again in the past four years. Nelsy has courageously undergone every possible treatment available, including 23 rounds of aggressive chemotherapy the last of which was part of a clinical trial in Los Angeles, in addition to two major surgeries. In October of 2012, the main tumor (17 x 10 x 7 cm) was successfully removed from her chest, and due to the spreading of the cancer, Nelsy’s left thyroid was recently removed. This medical “marathon” would not have been possible without the unwavering support from her family and friends, who have provided relief from the physical, mental, and financial burdens of Nelsy’s treatments.

After all she has endured, Nelsy’s life is still in danger as the cancer persists with many growing metastases present in her lungs and other parts of her body. Because the current traditional chemotherapies have been unsuccessful, we are pursuing a promising new approach called immunotherapy. This technique, which is only provided by private clinics, will use Nelsy’s own immune system to more effectively fight cancerous cells. Contrary to traditional chemotherapy methods, immunotherapy has the potential to completely rid Nelsy’s body of all remaining tumors; however, it is unfortunately very expensive. The estimated cost is $4500 per week for approximately 6-10 weeks; in order for Nelsy to take advantage of this treatment and continue her fight against cancer, we need your help.

We are eternally grateful for the help and support we have received from you thus far and we greatly appreciate any additional help you can provide – whether it be financial support or simply sharing Nelsy's story with your own friends and family.
