Good Friday

Luke 23:28 But Jesus, turning to them, said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children."

SNIPPETS OF HOLY WEEK: JESUS' WARNING

How would Jesus have us respond as we witness again His death on the cross? He does not want our focus to be merely sorrow at His suffering or pity for Him. He would have us recognize the consequences of our sin. Our response on Good Friday should not be contrition alone but repentance, that is, sorrow for sin coupled with faith in Christ our Savior.

The Israelite nation would be wiped out in a terrible and horrible fashion because they would not listen to the words of God's only Son, but handed him over to be crucified. Yet our guilt is no less than theirs, since it is our sin that sent him down that path.

Weep for yourself, that your sin is so terrible. Weep for yourself that this is what you deserve. Weep and repent. Hide yourself from the judgment that is to come, not under a mountain, but within Christ's love.
