A Ladyslipper on The Farm

Dear Friends,
Spring inspires us with hope and is a visible reminder of the beauty of change and transformation. Every wildflower we encounter along the way is a reminder to appreciate the small things in our world and have gratitude for the time we have in this magnificent creation. I share with you here my photos from the forest around us.

Although The Farm is receiving a steady stream of requests to visit and inquiries on how to move there, at this time we are still closed to visitors and it is uncertain when that will change.

In the meantime, Deborah and I are on the road again, heading west to explore the mountains of Colorado and the red rocks of Utah. Along the way, we will be meeting our friends to share music and Dances of Universal Peace, bringing together small groups of people who are fully vaccinated for actual face to face communion. The joy is in the journey!

Peace,
Douglas

An interview with Farm Founder Pamela Smith
Check out this excellent interview with Pamela Smith, as she talks about finding Monday Night Class, traveling on The Caravan, starting The Farm, the birth of her son, her time in Guatemala, and life after The Farm as a Doula, birth worker and social activist. She and her husband Bob Zellner continue to dedicate their lives to the cause of civil rights with a focus on training youth leaders in non-violent direct action.

While you are at it, I highly recommend the movie, Son of the South, a rental on Amazon Prime.
Produced by Spike Lee, it is the story of Bob's transition from college student to Alabama Freedom Rider, based on his book, The Wrong Side of Murder Creek. Here is the trailer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0IjvDWw0i4

The Western Highland Rim, the unique ecosystem of The Farm and its abundant wildflowers

The Farm Community is located on the Western Highland Rim, a oval shaped land formation that extends from the Cumberland Plateau on the east and surrounds the lower elevation Nashville Basin. This means that flora and fauna typically found in the Smokie Mountains and its foothills extend all the way west to the ridges and valleys that make up the ecosystem we call home.

Above: The green area is the Smokies. The orange area to the west is the Cumberland Plateau. It sweeps south and then extends up the other side of the Nashville Basin. This means there are numerous waterfalls that tumble over the rim on their way down to the Duck River watershed. We are blessed with abundant water and the life it supports.

I hope you'll make the effort to take a firsthand look at The Farm during one of my GreenLife Retreat Weekends, and that it will inspire you to pursue your dreams and find your chosen path!

Speaking Engagements
At the same time, I recognize that I can reach a lot more people if I go outside the community. One of my goals is to speak at colleges and universities where I can talk to young people about Right Livelihood, Service, and Finding Sanity in an Insane World. This is a time when people need to hear an uplifting message of hope.

If you are part of an organization, event, or school (or you just want to learn more about my life's work), I invite you to visit my web site www.douglasstevenson.com, where you'll find information on my lecture topics and how to bring me to speak in your area.
Thank you for your interest, and your support. I hope to see you down the road.
