NATIONAL CHARITY SUMMIT 2018 - THURSDAY, 24 MAY
REMINDER: Referendum reporting moratorium from 2pm
WHAT: The National Charity Summit is Ireland’s largest annual gathering of charities. This event is the focal point for a sector that generates a combined annual turnover of €12bn, employs 158,000 people and involves a half million volunteers. The aim of this event is to discuss and debate some of the most pressing issues for the charity sector. Around 200 charities will be attending and the event will hear contributions from 42 speakers.
WHEN: Thursday, 24 May 2018, 9am-5pm
WHERE: Croke Park Conference Centre (Hogan Suite)
WHO: Leaders from 200 charities, 42 speakers and experts, policymakers, funders, volunteers etc.
HOW: Media welcome to attend. Interview and photo opportunities available on the day.
On the agenda, Thursday 9am-5pm:
- State of the Sector Speech at 9.30am: Deirdre Gavey, CEO of The Wheel
- Charities Regulation, Administrative Costs and GDPR: Charities now have to file reports with various state bodies, including the Companies Registration Office, the Charities Regulator itself, the Lobbying Regulator and, for many charities, the HSE, TUSLA and HIQA. Charities welcome regulation and oversight, but these organisations cannot afford valuable public resources on unnecessary form-filling and duplication. There will be call to streamline these processes.
- Trust & Transparency: have charities done enough to deserve the public's trust?
NATIONAL LAUNCH:
Spark Change, a new EPA funded project that will support and showcase sustainable communities from across Ireland.
On the agenda, Friday, 9am-1pm
- Participation Summit: The Wheel and Carnegie Trust UK invites you to join us on Friday for a special discussion on social, economic and democratic participation in Ireland. We will be launching three significant publications. The reports, part of our long-running Peoples Conversation initiative, aim to develop understandings and stimulate discussion about how people participate and what we can do as a society to maximize participation enabling people and communities to flourish.
