Matthew 8:8 "But just say the word and my servant will be healed."
A WORD OF POWER
He was a Centurion, a soldier with 100 men under his command. As such, he was used to giving orders. All he had to do was say the word, and it was done. When you're a person in authority, your words carry power. But all his words and all his commands could do nothing at all to help his sick servant. Only Jesus' words carried that kind of authority. The Centurion was confident that all Jesus had to do was say the word and his servant would be healed. He was right! Jesus spoke, and the servant was healed that very hour.
The Centurion placed His confidence in the Word of His Savior. Sadly, many today, even many Christians, are looking for assurance of God's presence and love in all the wrong places. Some look at how healthy or wealthy they are for assurance of God in their lives. Others think that having fired up feelings for God will guarantee His help. While still others seek signs or omens for reassurance of God at work in their lives.
The only true confidence for faith is the Word of God, the Bible. So listen up! Jesus is talking to you from the words of your Bible. He says the word and your sins are forgiven. He speaks and once again you're made sure that all things are truly working in your life for your good. He says that nothing can separate you from His love, and because He says so, you can depend on it. And when He says He's preparing a place for you in heaven, you can be sure that's exactly what He's doing.
Maybe your problem and mine is not that we don't know that the Word is the place to turn, but that we don't take enough time to actually go there for the power God longs to give us. Pick up your Bible! Open it up! Give it a read! Just ask the Centurion! There's power in those words, God's power!
Lord, keep my faith anchored to your Word of Power. Amen.
