Wednesday 1 October

Next Wednesday we will be presenting an audiovisual presentation from NEMPF (North & East Midlands Photographic Federation) showing images from the recent NEMPF Exhibition, narrated as usual by the extremely professional Ashley Franklin - this is always an entertaining evening with some excellent images accompanied by an excellent and often entertaining commentary. For those who haven't seen it before, NEMPF is the North East equivalent of our own Western Counties Federation.

PARKING
Please make sure that you read the separate email sent today regarding parking. It is vitally important that we "think before we park", as a repetition of the problems caused by members parking in front of Units 1-6 (area to left of main entry to the estate) and the apparent rudeness by some members on Wednesday could well result in a backlash from other tenants and BPS losing permission to park in front of any of the other units.

Bi-Monthly Print Competition - Round 1
CLOSING DATE - NEXT WEDNESDAY, 1 OCTOBER

The judge for this round is Dennis Russ CPAGB LRPS AWPF BPE1* AFIAP and the prescribed subject is Conversation (real or imagined).

As the system is new to all, and basically the same for both PDI and prints, I'm repeating the instructions issued for the PDI competition.

To enter you will need to first log in to your new PhotoEntry account. You should already have received email instructions to do so (check your Junk mailbox in case it found its way there).

If you cannot find your invitation email, you can reset your password directly using the Login > Forgotten Password link on the PhotoEntry website: https://photoentry.uk.  Your user id will be in the format bps0000 where 0000 is your membership number prefixed with zeros to make it four digits (Example: if your membership number is 123, your user id will be bps0123).

Once you have logged in to PhotoEntry, you can upload, title and prioritise your entries for the competition. Instructions can be found by following this link: https://photoentry.uk/faq/faq.html

New competition rules have also been published which entrants should familiarise themselves with.  These can be found here: https://bristolphoto.org.uk/download-comp-rules

If you have any issues, please email printcompetitions@bristolphoto.org.uk.

Regards

David Alderson
Print Competitions Secretary

Monday 6 October
10am-1pm
Following the success of this Monday’s still life session this will be another opportunity to try out using ‘Stan Farrow like’ niches to photography objects. Mike has a few different shaped recesses – can you make the most of these? Bring tripods, close-up lenses, and objects (vases etc/grasses/flowers), torches, LED Lightpads, etc.

Monday 13 October
10am-1pm
Making a splash with a difference. Going to try capturing water splashing out of some glasses, etc.
If anyone has a kiddie's paddling pool, or fake ice cubes, please let Mike know, as that will allow us to get even more ambitious with our creations.
As before, bring tripods, close up or standard lenses, flash guns, objects or fruit to splash and perhaps a cocktail glass or two or any other container.
Mike Martin

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Marketplace
If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include them in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).

IMPORTANT: Personal Detail Changes
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk.

The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, please remember, if you don't tell us we can't possibly know!
