Hello Firstname

Breaking News!
It is fitting that this 100th edition of BPS in Focus should carry the news that the Society is now preparing to make a formal offer to purchase the property at Montpelier. Solicitors have now been engaged and within the next few weeks we will hopefully have exchanged contracts for the purchase of Unit 13, Montpelier Central and also for the sale of 12 West Mall. Whilst it is still a little too soon to “count our chickens”, it does look very much as if we will marking a major step in the history of BPS with a move to new premises very early in the new year.
There is a lot of work to do between now and the proposed move so a small task group of four Council members (Mike Bews, Mike Bigger, Keith Wood and Pete Howell) have been charged with seeing the project through. Preliminary plans have already been drawn up and are being discussed by Council prior to the project being handed over to a building surveyor/architect. It is hoped that we will be able to provide a clubrooms that the Society will be proud of and that will be fit for a 21st Century photographic society.

Photography Course
For any members who feel that they could benefit from a bit of formal photographic training, BPS runs it's own course from September through to November. There are still a few places left on this year's course so if you're interested please contact the course organisers (Derek Ripper & Helen Morgan) by email at photocourse@bristolphoto.org.uk or visit the course web page by clicking here.

Print Critique Evenings
For the last six years John Chamberlin and Graham Reeves have run print critique evenings for those members who want to progress their photography in the direction of obtaining distinctions from organisations such as the RPS and PAGB. John has now decided to step down; we can't let this moment pass without saying a big thank you to him for all the help he has given members at these meetings and to say that many of members owe much to John for his help and advice at these evenings.

Thankfully, there is another expert waiting in the wings ready to step into the breach, Pete McCloskey FRPS APAGB will be joining Graham at future meetings. Pete is a member of the Travel Distinctions Panel at the RPS and is a leading international judge, so you should be in safe hands.

Keen photographers are being urged to train their lenses on iconic images of British industry in EEF’s annual ‘Make it Britain’ photography competition. Winners will snap up a share of £5,000 of state-of-the-art Canon photography equipment.

Now in its 5th year, the competition aims to raise the profile of UK manufacturing by showcasing the industry’s creativity, diversity and heritage through inspiring photography.

There are three categories to enter: professional, amateur and young photographer (14-19 years old). The competition closes 30th September. Entries will be shortlisted by a panel of photography and industry experts with winners announced in December.

The gallery of winning and shortlisted images will be showcased around the UK throughout 2015.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Members may remember the images Neil McCoubrey produced when he was working on his project at the Bristol Record Office. Neil has just been told that his images are to be used to illustrate a paper called "Can you find a Strong Room inspiring" (the mind boggles!) which will be presented at the International Council on Archives Conference to be held at Girona (Spain) later this year. Well done Neil, we all thought you were becoming a bit of an old fogie and this would just confirm those suspicions!

If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
