Don’t miss the big show at Haydock Racecourse this Sunday. We have many exhibitors trading beads, jewellery, lace & other crafts – in two halls, along with beading jewellery-making workshops & refreshments. A bumper show, not to be missed!

This time the beading workshop is to make a beautiful Beady Easter Egg. The first workshop at 11am is only available to those who book first on the day – just £2.50 towards the materials. One & half hours of beading fun!

It’s not all about beads. The show also caters for manu other crafts – along with ready-made jewellery and other goodies. It’s a great day out for all the family. We find children are increasingly becoming interested in beading – and at Beads Up North, under 16s enter free! Adults are just £5 and over 66s £4.

FINDINGS MAKE THE JEWELLERY!

Findings are essential for creating jewellery, but it’s easy to forget about them when you ‘re shopping for beads. Jewellery without findings is dull, like a film with no music. Finding also save you money, making semi-precious beads go a lot further. Findings enhance and bring beads to life, without drawing too much attention to themselves.

You need wires to string the beads onto, whether they are flexible beading wire or rigid. Items made with flexible wires will need crimp beads to secure the ends, and you’ll want ear wires if you want to make earrings. You’ll also need a clasp to create necklaces or bracelets, and jump rings to attach those clasps. Toggle clasps are the easiest, but you can also use spring ring or lobster claw clasps if you want an adjustable length necklace. Spacers are useful to both add-design and to economize on the beads used in a project.

Spacer beads vary greatly in size, thickness, and shape so you can dramatically alter the style of your necklace by exchanging the metal beads. They are excellent to add a ‘sliver of metallic flash’ – while larger beads (often called Bali Beads) may be fancy enough to function as the focal beads in your designs.

You could create beaded jewellery without any metal beads, but they will help your jewellery appear more professional. Try using small 925 gothic spacers in between colorful single beads for a classy effect, and and cone or dome-shaped ones called bead caps are great for topping off a drop. At MrBead we stock over 85 different spacer beads. Most of these are what is known as ‘Tibetan Silver’, a more affordable and flexible material than pure silver. We also have Thai Hill Tribe Silver spacers – these are 97.5 to 99% silver.

Terahertz Beads
Terahertz beads are becoming increasingly popular. Due to their sleek lightweight metallic sheen and wellness benefits. Around 1995, Japanese scientists created quartz silica tinto the beauty of this man-made gem. Terahertz is strong, durable and retains heat. Looking similar to hematite, but much lighter. Said to stimulate blood flow, improving circulation, relief joint pain and balance the body’s energy. Other believe the stone can unlock creativity and bolster self-confidence. As well as relieving pain and increasing vitality.

Glow-In-The-Dark Beads
Glow in the dark beads are great for making a Rosary that you can see with the light out. The glow will appear to be brightening the more adapted your eyes become in the dark. Charge the beads up with daylight first, and they will glow for hours. Although there are rocks, called Hackmanite that naturally glow in the dark, these are made from glass and a harmless phosphor, like Strontium Aluminate.

Glass beads are a cheaper alternative to crystal, and available in more shapes, styles and colour. Glass is made from sand, being quartz – so metaphysical properties are similar to crystal.
