SURREY SCOUT WATER ACTIVITIES CLUB
Brownsea Island Trip 9th - 11th June 2017
(NOTE DATE CHANGE DUE TO SURREY SCOUTABOUT)
Hi ,
Please find attached details on our annual trip to Brownsea Island. This is a fantastic canoe camping trip around Poole Harbour in Dorset. Beginning at Redcliffe Farm in Wareham we paddle out into Poole Harbour, camping overnight on Brownsea Island on Saturday and finishing on the Studland Peninsula on Sunday afternoon.
Please note that due to diary clashes we have moved the trip to a week later than stated on the programme.
Also due to restrictions on camping at Redcliffe Farm (Friday Night), only the first 30 participants will be able to stay there on the first night. Later entries may have to find other local accomodation or travel down on the Saturday for a 0930 briefing at Wareham.
Basic Information
- £32 per person. There may be additional costs depending on an individual’s training/equipment requirements.
- The weekend qualifies as an ‘Open Water’ trip for the BCU Three Star Open Canoe Award.
- This is a self-catered camping trip. Participants will be expected to provide their own tent, cooking equipment and food. SSWAC will endeavour to partner up individual participants who wish to camp/cook as part of a group.
Pre-requisites
In order to attend this trip you will need to be able to provide evidence of:
- Paddling at a level of at least BCU 2 Star or Paddlepower Discover Level 9 including experience of open canoeing.
- Experience of at least two canoe or kayak trips which have each involved activity of around 5-6hrs on the water.
- Experience of camping in a lightweight tent and an ability to cook a meal on a lightweight stove.
