May 1, 2012
We're excited to share another week of news & ideas with our MAiZE family. There never seems to be a shortage of ideas and the truth is that some of the best originate with all of you! So, if you ever have an idea you'd like us to pass along to the group, please just send it our way. Also, please remember that we'll be archiving these ideas on the siteowner web site, so that you can go back and view them whenever you like.
Preferred Vendor Message: Spookley in Your Maze...
Spookley the Square Pumpkin is a great addition to your fall corn maze!

We at Holiday Hill Farm are excited to have so many members of the MAiZE organization participating in the 2012 Spookley Farm Program.  We've heard from a few of you recently because you are finalizing your maze designs and thinking about featuring Spookley in your kiddie or regular mazes, so we thought now would be a good time to reach out to the group with a few reminders:

1. There is no separate fee from Holiday Hill Enterprises for featuring Spookley in your maze.  We only ask that (a) you confirm your participation in the 2012 Spookley Farm Program with us before featuring Spookley in your maize and (b) you submit your maize design to us for approval.  (The MAiZE Company already has some pre-approved designs).  We are happy to provide images of Spookley and the other Holiday Hill Farm characters to you as you work through the design process.

2. We offer The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin story printed on 13 weatherproof signs that can be displayed throughout the maze.  The entire set sells for $455 plus shipping and we received very positive feedback about these signs last year.

3. This is a very special year to feature Spookley in your maze – and at your farm in general – because we are partnering with the National Bullying Prevention Center to raise awareness for bullying prevention.  Spookley is the “Official Spokes-Pumpkin” for National Bullying Prevention Month in October and we look forward to partnering with you at the local/national/international level to raise awareness.

A Few Tips & Guidelines for the Facebook Forums

Wow! With nearly 250 members, the private Facebook Forum Group started this last year for MAiZE owners has quickly grown into a valuable communication vehicle that we hope you're all finding to be a valuable learning/networking tool. With growth always seems to come a few "growing pains" and we wanted to share a few helpful tips & policies to help make sure we are keeping the forum as effective as possible...

1. Owner-Only Members: Though some of you have asked us to add some of your key employees to the group, we've received several requests to keep it an owner-only communication channel. Among several concerns is that information is being shared with individuals who may leave your farms & take the info with them. Thus, moving forward the forum will be exclusive to MAiZE owners only. (If you have a full-time, year-round employee that you'd like to be an exception to this rule, please contact us directly.)

2. Email Notifications: Several of you may no longer be receiving email notifications of new postings in the forum and you're not sure why. A few months ago Facebook made some changes that requires you to update your settings to indicate if you want to receive posts by email. If you fall in this category and want to get notifications by email again, you may need to turn on or edit the settings for your Notifications.

3. Posting of Items for Sale: As you all hopefully know, we created a separate MAiZE Marketplace group where you can post items you want to buy or sell. The hope is that keeping these posts in a separate group will keep them from getting buried so quickly in the regular forum group. One policy we'd like to suggest is that all posts are related to farm/maze-related items only and not to any personal, unrelated items you might be selling.

4. Search for Previous Discussions: Because of how long the forum has been in place, the likelihood that many topics have previously been discussed is getting higher and higher. Before posting a question, you may want to do a quick SEARCH of the forum. Though the search function isn't perfect and doesn't always pull up all older discussions, it's a good "first check" when you have a new topic on your mind. Just click on the little magnifying glass in the upper right corner of the forum page and type in a keyword related to your topic. You just might get lucky and find some great existing answers to your questions!

5. Email vs. Forum Posting: On some occasions it may be more appropriate for you to personally email (or private message via Facebook) someone to continue a lengthy discussion about a specific topic. If there is one person in particular that you'd like to get more details from on a specific topic, and it doesn't relate to the group as a whole, emailing them directly will help to keep the forum from getting bogged down with multiple posts between two parties.

Keeping some of these things in mind, we hope the forum continues to be a valuable tool for everyone as it continues to grow. We are so appreciative of the willingness to share that exists within our MAiZE family and want to thank you all!
