Wednesday 2 October

Our speaker next week is Peter Warner ARPS who will be presenting his talk "Getting into AV".

This what Peter says about himself and his talk:

Photography has been a passion of mine for many years, taking part in camera clubs, entering competitions and gaining an ARPS distinction in ‘Visual Art’ and, later, ARPS in Multi-Media (for audio-visual sequences). My sequences have gained credit at Midphot and other AV festivals. I have served as judge and have lectured in photography for over ten years and lead the AV Group at the Beacon Camera Club in Malvern.
My talk ‘Getting into AV’ explores different forms of Audio-Visual presentations and considers lots of ways in which they can be used for family, friends, competitions and use on the internet. I will demonstrate how to put together a basic sequence and illustrates my talk with sequences I have created.

Below are a few images to give a flavour of what we might expect:

Projected Image Competition 2024-25 Round 1
This Wednesday saw the 2024-25 competition season kick off with Round 1 of the PDI Competition, which was judged by Penny Piddock DPAGB EFIAP from Dorchester CC. Unfortunately, bad weather and flooding around Dorchester forced Penny to do the judging from home via Zoom.

Image Size
It might be worth mentioning, mainly for newer entrants, that despite what people may say, size is important. Several images this week projected very small and on inspection I can see that they are only 480 pixels square, and therefore occupied just a small area of the centre of the screen. Images should be maximum 1600 pixels wide x maximum 1200 pixels high for landscape format images and portrait format images should be a maximum of 1200 pixels high. Images don't necessarily have to fill the dimensions, a "letterbox" shaped image 1600px x 800px for example would be fine, but none of the sides should protrude beyond the 1600px x 1200px box. There is one other thing that you need to know, you should not fill empty space either side, or above and below your image with black, the projector will automatically fill those spaces for you.

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Marketplace
If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include it in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).

IMPORTANT: Personal Detail Changes
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk.

The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, please remember, if you don't tell us we can't possibly know!
