Dear Friends,
Happy Summer (officially) to you!

Do me a favor and wish my sister (and supreme female drummer), Peace, a Happy Birthday! It was yesterday! Older and wiser...but not wiser than me! HA!

What have you been up to? Last week someone asked me what i spend my time doing. I chucked and tried to give them my once-well-rehearsed "elevator pitch". To my surprise, I realized I no longer have one b/c my months have become so much more varied than they used to be. So the elevator pitch has gone...well...down the shaft!

But here's what I've been up to and what I'm doing over the next few weeks!

Breath & The Clay Podcast Interview

Inspiration: Where does it come from? How do we use it? What is it for?
Early last year I was asked to write an endorsement for my friends' Ned Bustard and Stephen Roach's book Naming the Animals. A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of talking with them on their podcast about one of the book's focuses: Inspiration. The book is great! The conversation was fun! If you're familiar with The Breath & The Clay podcast, I think you will enjoy this offshoot series by both Stephen and Ned! [listen here]

Women Wearing Love!

Who are these faces!?
Each time we get a new batch of Wearing Love shirts in, I pull out my DSLR camera and consider which bodies should "embody" the message for the website. For our logo tees, it was a no brainer. I knew I wanted to ask my neighbors Karin, Alyssa, and Christina to model their fabulous selves! They share a house in Philly a few blocks down from where i live and each time i see them together, I get a sense that this is what it looks like to "live in love". Their friendship is beautiful, sacrificial, and wrapped in kindness. Logo tees are available
on the site along with a bunch of other tees. I hope you enjoy their gorgeous smiles and contagious joy as you look through the color options!
New design and July Wallpaper of the Month out next week!

Paint on the Porch is 1 Year Old!
a celebration + reflection

I can't believe I'm saying this, but paint on the porch is officially one year old this week! I could cry! Approximately 20 kids have come through this porch and house in the last year. Some have fallen off, some have stayed, and others have popped in and out. We've gone through chaotic hair-pulling girl-fight afternoons trying to maintain order to fun family feasts with rice and seaweed (they love the combination)! My favorite day was when destiny (13) spent her allowance to buy chicken so she could make quesadillas for everyone.  All hands on deck. Everyone cooked, everyone cleaned (although they tried to get out of that part).

The girls have made such amazing things! We've had some really long difficult conversations. We've talked about the "goodness of God in the land of the living"...all the things to be grateful for...all the ways we can make our neighborhood better...the need to first examining our own hearts before we blame and judge others...all the opportunities to walk in love.

The kids have expressed fear with the things they are exposed to in our corner of Germantown but have just as quickly shared their joys and what they get excited about!

A few are in the foster program, a few are adopted, lost parents to drug addiction, crime...whatever. And it doesn't matter bc I see that they see there is better out there for them! I am so hopeful about who they are and who they are becoming!

I love that they call or text to ask "what are we doing this week!"
Some of the kids who come most consistently now are not the kids who came most consistently last summer. The constant ebb and flow has been challenging but the door is open.
We've gone from Paint on the Porch to Paint in the Kitchen to Paint in the park to now Paint at Peace's place (as I find myself in a moment of transition).

I am just so grateful!
God is so good! Jesus loves the little children!
They are so beautiful to Him!

That is all.
❤️
