INVENTORS ISSUE
The prototype 4-D Snow Bike kit took some turns recently at Aspen Highlands in Colorado, capping the day with a run in Highlands Bowl. This is a kit, with front and rear snowboards. The tires can extend (or not) through a slot in the boards, that you put onto any bike that you already have, as they add braking to the turning power .
RIDE IN HARMONY TM founder Cary Thompson went along with prototype slidable Tele's, but the day belonged to Darin Schultz from Minnesota whose ride in harmony stopped skiers in their tracks, who watched the 4-D Snow Bike descend 1200 feet of verticle on a 40 degree pitch. Those Aussie boys and girls from the Thredbo patrol have come up with a way of stopping runaway snowboards. Especially in windy areas, a board can be flipped onto it's slide surface after it's taken off, and then it's down the hill, out of control. This simple hook flips over, when you take the board off, to drag like a ski brake on the slide surface.
"We have been trying to deal with this solution to runaway boards for some time and feel this devise will be advantageous to resort owners liability and also some insurance in the back country to prevent runaways and risky retrievals," says Dave Kuhn, ski patrol manager.
