Next week we see the final round of the 2017-2018 Projected Image Competition. Our judge for this final, crucial round should have been Sandie Cox, who unfortunately is unable to make it. However an old friend of BPS, Leigh Preston FRPS has agreed to step in at short notice. Leigh can be both sharp and witty in his delivery and it has not been unknown for him to slip in the odd pun or two (well, loads really!) into his delivery. We can expect an instructive and at the same time entertaining evening.
Leigh is a member of the Arena Group of Photographers and is well known on the exhibition circuits, both as an entrant and as a judge.

The closing date for the final round of the 2017-2018 Print Competition is only a short time away, Wednesday 28 March, when the judge will be Adrian Herring DPAGB ARPS. The theme for prescribed category (print No 3 in your set) will be architecture. |

'Tribe' a photography exhibition. Lacock Abbey until 20 May. This is a collaborative exhibition of photography by mid-career professional artists. Their work is a narrative, addressing issues of family, history, love and loss. The artists are a group of women from all over the US. Full details here.

The renowned wildlife photography competition, Wildlife Photographer of the Year, from the Natural History Museum is back at M Shed in the City Docks until 8 April, with 100 spectacular images. From frozen wastelands and peculiar species, to tropical paradises and fascinating animal behaviour; this year’s selection is a call to action – a plea to band together and protect our fragile planet. Wildlife Photographer of the Year is the most prestigious photography event of its kind, providing a global platform that showcases the natural world’s most astonishing and challenging sights. Swaps: Photographs from the David Hurn Collection. Until 15 April at the National Museum, Cardiff. This exhibition celebrates the major gift of photographs from David Hurn’s private collection and marks the opening of Amgueddfa Cymru’s first gallery dedicated to photography. Throughout his career as a documentary photographer and member of Magnum Photos, Hurn has been an avid collector of photography. Remarkably, he has amassed his private collection by swapping works with other photographers. The collection comprises approximately 700 photographs by leading 20th and 21st century photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Eve Arnold, Sergio Larrain, Bill Brandt, Martine Franck, Bruce Davidson and Martin Parr, through to emerging photographers such as Bieke Depoorter, Clementine Schneidermann, and Newsha Tavakolian. The exhibition presents a selection of works that reflect on Hurn’s own career and influences, his eye for a good photograph and the friendships he has developed with photographers along the way. Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Would all members please note: before you plan your shoot and book your model, you should check whether the studio/clubroom will be free. This can be done easily and at any time by viewing the Clubroom Bookings calendar in the Members' Area of the BPS Website. Bookings can (and must) be made by contacting Mike Bigger at bookings@bristolphoto.org.uk.
