Psalm 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
DO NOT BE SURPRISED BY GOD
To a certain extent we enjoy the unexpected. Surprise parties and gifts, a movie with a turn that came out of the blue, an underdog upsetting a favorite in a sporting event--such things can lift our spirits and excite us.
What about expecting the expected? That may sound boring and not very thrilling, but in the spiritual realm we benefit greatly by knowing that God is the same from "everlasting to everlasting." We give ourselves unnecessary grief when we underestimate the love and power of our Lord. We give ourselves unnecessary problems when we overestimate our own strength and ability.
It really is very simple, yet through deceptions of the Tempter and our own sinful blindness, we forget God's track record of great power fueled by His love and mercy. During the Epiphany season as we recount the power of our Lord Jesus in His miracles, we put deposits in our memory bank. In faith we withdraw the concrete facts that our God is not full of surprises, but from everlasting to everlasting is consistent in His approach to His people. He does whatever it takes--far beyond human ability and understanding--to take care of His children.
