Wednesday 4 October

Next week we welcome Kylie-Ann Martin EFIAP BPE 2* LDPS, who will be presenting her talk "My Journey in Photography .... So Far" Kylie-Ann has stepped in a fairly short notice to replace a speaker who is unavailable and will be presenting her talk over Zoom, both to the clubrooms and to those at home.
Kylie-Ann will take you from her first image in 2006/7, with a brief explanation of her health restrictions, which also impacts on her photography. Despite these barriers she earnt her distinctions, EFIAP, BPE 2 and LDPS. You will see the images that contributed to all the exhibition acceptances and hear some of the stories behind them and she will end with her CPAGB panel.

Below are a few images from the talk. To see more, visit Kylie-Ann's website by clicking here.

Digital Imaging Group

DI Group (Clubroom/Zoom) Meeting – Monday 9 October, 7.30 pm

You may have noticed from the heading above that the next DIG meeting will be held in the clubroom, but it can also be accessed by Zoom. A few members have expressed a desire to return to the clubroom for face to face informal meetings. A small working group discussed its feasibility without excluding those who are unable to come to the clubroom. The conclusion was to return to the clubroom in October as a trial but retain access to the meeting via Zoom. We have an excellent computer setup which should hopefully allow full two-way simultaneous participation by all in the clubroom as well as on Zoom to maintain the informal atmosphere. It was also a good opportunity to explore the needs of the members with a survey which many of you may have seen in the recent newsletter and have responded to. For those who may be intersected in the results of the survey they may be accessed via the link https://portal.bristolphoto.org.uk/dig-survey-results-2023/ which will take you to the Members Portal of BPS website. Once you have logged in, the survey results are under the Latest News/Updates. My thanks to all who responded to the survey.

The last DIG meeting in September was an evening full of images of a variety of genres. The next meeting is on Monday 9 October, in about ten days’ time. The meeting is open to all BPS members, and you are welcome to share your images with fellow members. As the summer and the holiday seasons are almost over and with the new round of completions beginning you may be sorting out your images for the club competitions. At the DI meeting you have an opportunity to get a second opinion from your fellow members. Or else you might just enjoy showing off your work and experiments in an informal atmosphere or ask questions on digital imaging.

For submission of images I would still like to maintain the current system of sending images to me before the meeting which allows me to prepare the presentation folder in advance because it has worked well. When you are ready, please email your images for presentation to reach me by 6pm-ish  Sunday 8 October. Images: JPG format, sRGB colour space, 1600 x 1200 pixels (same as competitions but not strict). To show them in a specific order, please prefix filenames with 01, 02, 03 etc. Email attachment size - max 20Mb per email, as many as necessary. You may also use WeTransfer or Dropbox if convenient, but I am not equipped to receive by direct transfers from Google or Apple Mac systems.

Derwood At Bristol Guild
An invite from Derwood (Pamphilon):

Come and see our exhibition which starts on the 7th October. Here's what the Guild said about us:
"An exhibition of inspiring new work from So What Collective – a collaboration of talented south-west artists working in painting, weaving, photography, embroidery, mixed media, glass and ceramics.
Pop in to browse, buy and meet the exhibitors, and visit Bristol Guild’s newly refurbished cafe."

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Market Place
If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include it in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).

IMPORTANT: Personal Detail Changes
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk

The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, please remember, if you don't tell us we can't possibly know!

DO NOT REPLY TO THE NEWSLETTER.
