27-Oct-2013: X90-OPUS GPS News

With the US Government shutdown at the beginning of October, I gained a new appreciation for the services that the NGS provides for the survey community. The loss of OPUS was a huge setback for many surveyors.

X90-OPUS GPS users only needed to switch the provider from NGS to AUSPOS or RTX and continue working. I don't think that any other reciever or automated submission tool survived as well.

The GPS World article  "Seven Free Alternatives to OPUS GPS Post Processing During U.S. Federal Government Shutdown" that Eric Gakstatter and I wrote generated a huge response, lots of comments and questions and was widely linked.

If you found the GPS World article to be valuable, you may also like the OPUS Projects article described below. OP is a real revolution in online PPP service.

Updated X90-OPUS Download Tool (Build 9106)

The X90 download tool has been updated with a single enhancement:
If you are not using GAPS, then you probably won't need this added option and should not bother updating your download tool.

OPUS Projects

OPUS Projects (OP) is going to be released by the NGS very soon. Unlike OPUS-Static and OPUS-Rapid Static, OP processes baselines between multiple receivers at a site. This article [ OPUS-Projects: The Next Revolution in GPS ] describes the benifits and operation in detail and includes a step-by-step how-to video.

The X90-OPUS reciever is a perfect tool for utilizing OPUS Projects. 'More receivers is more better,' and the X90-OPUS allows you to purchase multiple receivers at a reasonable cost. The X90-OPUS download tool already fully automates file submissions to OPUS Projects (as shown in the article's video.)

Best of all, OPUS Projects like OPUS-Static is a free service provided by NGS. With a few X90-OPUS receivers you can perform fully framed and adjusted GPS surveys 'In the Cloud.'
