Wednesday 8 October

Next Wednesday we welcome Julie Morgan AWPF from Pontypool who will be taking us on her "Journey to AWPF".

Julie was awarded her AWPF (Associateship of the Welsh Photographic Federation) for a panel of 12 images, for which she chose Jazz as a theme having been asked to photograph the Jazz Festival at Abergavenny in 2018. But rather than just put up a series of images straight out of the camera, she wanted the essence of jazz to come through and reach the viewer. She wanted the viewer to feel as though they were there, at the jazz club, so she thought about the colours, the sounds and the people of jazz, she wanted these to be seen, heard and felt in each of the images. Tonight we will go on the journey to that she took, culminating in her AWPF.
Here are few images from Julie's successful AWPF panel:

Digital Imaging Group
The next Digital Imaging Group Meeting will be on Monday 13 October at 7.30pm.

Meetings are informal and take place at the clubrooms and via zoom.

These meetings are a great opportunity for all members to share images outside the competition environment. The aim of these evenings is to share knowledge, projects, expertise, ideas and to obtain feedback and inspiration. So think about what techniques or tips you can share for the benefit of others, or what you might want help/feedback on.

DIG is the perfect environment for newer and less experienced members to pick up hints and tips or receive specific feedback to improve their photography and editing skills. BPS has many experienced members with diverse interests and styles who would be happy to help.  If you are unsure whom to approach, just ask and someone will help or point you in the right direction.

Many thanks to our August contributors. See below some of the interesting and diverse images we enjoyed.
If you would like to share your images at the October meeting, please send them to me at dig@bristolphoto.org.uk by 5.00pm on Friday 11 Oct. Please number your images in the order you would like them to be viewed and resize to the usual competition size, not essential but helps to keep the files to a manageable size. If you could please restrict the number of images to a maximum of 30 this will ensure that we enjoy a wide variety of subjects.

If you have a more detailed topic/technique to share, then let me know and we can schedule a longer more focused session, or feature this on one of the intervening practical evenings.

I look forward to seeing you.

Studio Group
Monday 6 October
10am-1pm
Following the success of this Monday’s still life session this will be another opportunity to try out using ‘Stan Farrow like’ niches to photography objects. Mike has a few different shaped recesses – can you make the most of these? Bring tripods, close-up lenses, and objects (vases etc/grasses/flowers), torches, LED Lightpads, etc.

Monday 13 October
10am-1pm
Making a splash with a difference. Going to try capturing water splashing out of some glasses, etc.
If anyone has a kiddie's paddling pool, or fake ice cubes, please let Mike know, as that will allow us to get even more ambitious with our creations.
As before, bring tripods, close-up or standard lenses, flash guns, objects or fruit, to splash and perhaps a cocktail glass or two or any other container.

Monday 20 October
10am – 1pm
TBC.  Anyone with requests to cover a specific topic, please contact Mike Martin

Monday 27 October
Treble session special!
Michelle will be returning, joined by Anna, a fantastic make-up artist, for the whole day.  Some of you may recognise Michelle from the fake underwater shoot in August and Anna from large number of Mike’s photos including when she had paint poured over her! Anna now focuses on make-up for film and TV so Mike is excited to see what she can add to the party. This is your opportunity to see how working on a planned styled shoot with a collaborative team can elevate your photography, at a fraction of the cost of other workshops.
10am – 1pm
Theme to be determined.  Session open to all. No booking required. Cost £10
1:30pm – 4:30pm
Building upon the morning, this session is limited to 6 people. Booking essential. Cost £25
7:00pm – 9:30pm

Trumpet Blowers' Corner
Salon acceptances: Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Marketplace
If you have any photographic items for sale, drop me a line and I'll include them in the next newsletter. Please make sure that you provide contact details, price and full description of the sale items (pictures always help).

IMPORTANT: Personal Detail Changes
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk.

The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, please remember, if you don't tell us we can't possibly know!
