Matthew 17:8 When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.

NO ONE EXCEPT JESUS

Do you know what it's like to feel a "let down" after big events? When you've been part of a very special or exciting day, you sometimes wake up the next morning and say, "Well, now what?"

Transfiguration day was an action-packed time of excitement and special revelation for Peter, James, and John. Jesus led them up on a mountain and there His appearance changed before them. His face shone like the sun and His clothes became as bright as the light. A voice from heaven echoed, "This is my beloved Son." Here for a little while they had a chance to see how glorious their Savior really was. Truly He was the Son of God who could help and defend them in every need! Later on when the going got tough at the cross, they would be able to remember how they had seen Jesus' majesty and it could give them strength in the darker days.

But before long everything returned to normal. Jesus' appearance went back to that which the disciples were accustomed. It seemed like everything was over and there might be a bit of a "let down." Yet what a beautiful sight met the eyes of Peter, James, and John when the wondrous transfiguration was ended! The Bible says, "When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus."

Although the glorious moments had faded, the one thing most important was the only thing that now filled their field of vision. Instead of canceling His divine mission and leaving His followers stranded, Jesus had decided to "come with them to the plain." Though all power in heaven and earth belonged to Him, Jesus had resolved to remain with these dear ones to still their fears, to guard them, guide them, forgive them all their sins, and lead them to the stunning mansions of heaven. May it also be said for each one of us that when we looked up, we saw no one except Jesus!
