Romans 10:8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming.

CLOSER THAN 235 TRILLION MILES

About a year ago, scientists were ecstatic about the discovery of seven "earthlike" planets orbiting a star called Trappist-1, about 235 trillion miles from earth. In a way, the publicity was understandable. It's exciting to learn more about the wonders of the universe which God created out of nothing by the power of His Word in the span of six 24-hour days. Yet when you think about it, how important is the discovery? Will it change our lives for the better? Will it solve the world's problems, make us happier, eliminate sin and death, and give eternal meaning to life?

There is far more amazing news far closer, that of the creator God's boundless love for a world which deserves eternal punishment. What's more, you don't need a space-based telescope to discover it. It's not 235 trillion miles away, but as close as your Bible. In His Word God tells us how He put His love into action in sending His Son, not to condemn the world, but to save the world by taking upon Himself the punishment for all sin. The discovery of 100 new planets is nothing next to this: "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God" (2 Corinthians 5:21).

There's still more! In His love God not only saved the entire world through Christ, He sends the Holy Spirit to create faith in hearts to believe and receive the blessings of salvation. Paul writes: "'The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,' that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:8-9). No other news gives lasting hope and eternal life.

So when someone tells you, "I have amazing news!" be ready to share the most amazing news of all!
