The Prayer House is not finished!

Dear Friends,

This time a message from Cathy: since our last newsletter, we have had some emails from people who are under the impression that the building is finished or almost finished.

Well, no we are not quite there yet.....!

Current Situation

Just to put the record straight, it may be finished in our minds and imaginations, but the reality is that we only have BARE BLOCK WALLS, ROOF AND WINDOWS! The builders in the last few weeks have been building the interior walls (also bare blocks) and now they are constructing the interior attic.

Oh No – Not “Money”

As the person who looks after the figures, I would like to share with you a quick summary of last year’s accounts, which means mentioning that dreadful word “MONEY”. This is for the purpose of openness and accountability as we feel it’s important to share how the money was spent. We have just completed the accounts for 2018 and this is what the figures look like:

  • We started 2018 with a completed basement and 13 500 zł (€ 3 140) in the bank.
  • During the year we received 320 600 zł (€ 74 560) in donations.
  • We spent 314 200 zł (€ 73 070) on the building, which included a 51 600 zł (€ 12 000) pre-payment for the windows which were installed in January 2019.
  • We spent 5 600 zł (€ 1 300) on other expenses such as electricity for the builders, website domain, flyers, land tax and bank charges.
  • At the end of 2018 we were left with 14 300 zł (€ 3 330) in the bank and the main structure of the house.

Grateful Thanks

We want to thank all of you who have partnered with the Lord in helping to build the building so far. We look to the Lord for all the financial provision and He does this by stirring His people’s hearts to partner Him in this project, because unless the Lord builds the house we are labouring in vain.

Every gift, both small and large, was precious and together they made all that has been built so far possible. We couldn’t have done it without your donations. At the end of the year, when we had big costs to pay, we were counting every 50 zł (€ 10). So, if you think your gift is too small – you’re wrong! Every small gift was necessary – and the big ones too!!

The Challenge for 2019

We still have the most expensive time for the building in front of us. More building work on the inside of the house and on the outside, as well as installing electricity, gas, water, cables, pipes and tubes to create all the systems that are needed - heating, lighting, power, ventilation, hot and cold water, external roller blinds, etc.

The building work becomes increasingly complicated from now on as the builder has to organise his own workers, as well as organising electricians, plumbers, and several other contractors to install all the cables, pipes and tubes in the walls, floors and ceilings – all in their proper order – before the final concrete floors go down and plaster can be put on the walls and ceilings.

All these things are tied together and can’t be easily separated out.

There is also the outside – of getting water, electricity and gas to the building and installing an ecological cess pit that can cater for large numbers of people.

We are so thankful to the Lord in providing a builder who is a believer and is so capable in project management and people management. Mark has also been deeply involved in all the design of these systems, as well as getting quotes and organising contracts. As some of you know Mark was a project manager for a large international company before the Lord called us to build a Prayer House...

The bottom line is that all of this costs money and we are looking at a schedule of works that takes us into September or October 2019, which will cost around 550 000 zł (€ 128 000), just for those contractors that we’ve mentioned above.

Once again, we find ourselves in a place where we’ve not been before…

So, to answer the original question – no the Prayer House isn’t finished yet!

As to finishing it – let us see what the Lord will do in 2019.

With love and blessings
Cathy and Mark
