Next week we were due to have a visit from Steven Le Prevost from Guernsey. Unfortunately, Steven is unable to come so, at very short notice Lee Woolford AWPF EFIAP DPAGB, from Gwynfa CC in the Welsh Valleys, has agreed to come to BPS with his talk entitled A Search for Focus. This is a bewildered photographer's attempt to answer the unanswerable question…. 'so what do you photograph?' In it Lee talks about how he got started, what influences him and what motivates him. The talk contains photographs from various genres including sport, landscape, people, music/gig, urban, street etc. It is a real mixed bag and there is an underlying message....
Just to whet your appetite, here are a couple of pictures from the evening’s talk:

Projected Image Competition - Round 3
|
If you have any queries or questions concerning the competition, I'm sure that Ken Clarke will be only too willing to help, you can email him at the address above. The judge will be Mike Birkbeck, FRPS FBPA FDPS - you can find out more about Mike by visiting his website, click here, or Fotospeed's website, click here.

The monthly meeting of the DI Group takes place next Monday, 9 January, at 7.30pm at the clubrooms. As usual all members are welcome, especially if they come armed with pictures, either just to show what you have been doing recently, or to get comment and/or advice from fellow members. Pictures can be print or projected (jpeg on USB memory stick please). As usual, we can expect to be treated to Ashwin’s now famous chocolate biscuits.

Bristol International Salon of Photography 2017
|
If you want to qualify for free entry to this year’s Bristol Salon, there are just 2 weeks left. The closing date is 21 January. After this you will have to pay the full fee, which is between £11 and £20 depending on how many sections you enter.
Details have been in the last few editions of the newsletter, so I won't repeat them again, however you can find full details, plus help with entering, by visiting the club website.
When entering, be sure to tick the box on the first page of the entry system to say that you are a BPS member and fill in your BPS membership number which you will find at the top of this newsletter; when you get to the payment page at the end, click ALREADY PAID. BPS members (of all grades an abilities) usually do pretty well in the Salon, so here's hoping that we see a rush of entries. In
the meantime if you have any queries, feel free to email me at chairman@bristolsalon.co.uk

20 January |
David Kjaer will be giving a digital image presentation talk entitled Highlands and Islands – Scottish Wildlife, at Kingswood Photographic Society on Friday 20 January (7.30pm). For further information about David Kjaer and to see some of his images, you can visit his website at www.davidkjaer.com. Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers
of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't
include them all. So please only advise of awards or other
milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
|
If
you have something photographic that you want to sell, let me have the
details and I will circulate them to a captive audience of photographers
through the Newsletter - send to the usual address. |
Would all members please note: before you plan your shoot and book your model, you should check whether the studio/clubroom will be free. This can be done easily and at any time by viewing the Clubroom Bookings calendar in the Members' Area of the BPS Website. Bookings can (and must) be made by contacting Mike Bigger at bookings@bristolphoto.org.uk.
Log in details to the Members' Area are at the end of this newsletter.
|
For those of you who aren't sure what MPAGB, EFIAP/s and many more such seemingly random collections of letters mean, just click here to download the list. |
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk
The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, if they are wrong, please let Carol know. |
If you have anything you think other members would like to know about, such as exhibitions, special events etc. please let me know at newsletter@bristolphoto.org.uk
