Next Wednesday, 10 August, we will have a visit from Colin Harrison FRPS, MPAGB, EFIAP/p, FBPE, FIPF, MFIAP, MPSA, APAGB (well, that little lot filled up a few column inches!) who will be presenting his talk Digital Adventure: Looking at Images. As you can guess from the list of letters after his name, Colin could be what you might describe as a prolific photographer and exhibitor whose ability to produce pictures is only matched by his ability to produce words - as we are sure to find out next Wednesday.
Just to whet your appetite, here are a couple of Colin's more recent pictures:

Next Monday (7.30pm) is the monthly meeting of the DI Group when, as usual, all members are welcome. Please bring along images to show, either prints or projected (jpegs on USB flash drives only please). This is an evening when you can show your latest images to the assembled masses, either just to show what you've been doing (or show off your latest exotic holiday location) or to seek help with problems you may have encountered. You might also like to show everyone a new technique or trick that you've learnt.
And of course, the chocolate biscuits are just great!

Facebook - Another Plea To Members
|
Last week I included a request for members who have Facebook accounts to add the Photography Course flyer to their Facebook page and then "share" it with all of their Facebook friends. Sadly, out of 120+ members, only eight followed the request. I'm sure there are far more Facebook aficionados than just those eight. Members should remember that without the annual income from the Photography Course, subscriptions would probably be 20% - 25% higher than they are, we therefore need as much help as possible to publicise it. So, if you have a Facebook account, please download the flyer, (please click here) and share it on your FB page with all of your Bristol based friends.

Don't forget that the programme for the forthcoming year (2016-2017) can now be seen on the Society's website - please follow this link to see what joys await.

Three things to put in your diary for the weeks ahead, the Balloon Fiesta at Ashton Court, ThunderCat racing at Clevedon and Colin Varndell at Sodbury & Yate Camera Club.
Balloon Fiesta - This will be over next weekend, 11 - 14 August. As usual the Fiesta will include the Nightglow and fireworks display on Thursday, dawn and dusk mass balloon ascents on each day and a whole raft of different entertainment at Ashton Court in between. Full details can be found on the Fiesta website, www.bristolballoonfiesta.co.uk
ThunderCat Racing - This is a new event to this neck of the woods and is a very exciting form of powerboat racing using 4 metre inflatable catamarans all fitted with hugely powerful engines strapped to their rear ends. The racing takes place over the Bank Holiday weekend ( 27 - 28 August) and will run over a course based around Clevedon Pier. Full details can be found here.
Colin Varndell - Sodbury & Yate Camera Club are hosting a special event on 12 September. They have invited the renowned landscape and wildlife photographer Colin Varndell to give one of his special talks. The event will be held at the Charter Suite at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall. Tickets (£5) can be obtained through tickets@sypc.org.uk or by ringing Eileen 01454 778882. More details here & here. |
Wednesday 17 August is the annual Members' Evening and Derwood still has a few slots open for contributors to the evening. Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

For those of you who aren't sure what MPAGB, EFIAP/s and many more such seemingly random collections of letters mean, just click here to download the list. |
Digital Projector
Club member Derek Dorsett, who died recently, has left a digital projector which someone might like to purchase. It is an NEC VT 575 Model and is lightweight and comes in a carrying case with remote and cables. Instructions for use are available on line. It has not tested it but we have no reason to believe it is not in good working order. If anybody would like to test /try it at home, please contact John Chamberlin to arrange a handover. A price of about £50 ono seems reasonable as all money will go to charity. John's email address is jgchamberlin@yahoo.co.uk or you can phone 0117 9299565.
If you have something photographic that you want to sell, let me have the details and I will circulate them to a captive audience of photographers through the Newsletter - send to the usual address.
|
Please don't forget that if you change your address (home or email), or gain additional photographic distinctions, it would be appreciated if you could let the Membership Secretary know so that she can keep her records up to date, this will also ensure that you continue to receive your newsletters - please email all changes to membership@bristolphoto.org.uk
The distinctions we have on record are those shown at the top of this newsletter, if they are wrong, please let Carol know. |
If you have anything you think other members would like to know about, such as exhibitions, special events etc. please let me know at newsletter@bristolphoto.org.uk
