Hello Everybody, hope your all well.
As i've been so busy mixing live stuff and listening to lots of different kinds of music on my new genelec 1031:s
( Well i have to learn what they sound like so i listen for days!)
I had no time to put together a 'concept' for this Mars newsletter so this time i will present a bullet list of totally unrelated tips but still useful!
*Send additional ambient mics to reverb. Use only reverb outputs
..and you'll get a lively and smooth sound.
* Use Dolby A system as a Vocal processor, Use Dolby when recording but not during playback.
...the quiter parts will be compressed and eq:ued slightly.
(A technique Beegees found out by misstake! Flood used this technique with U2:s Bono + Shure sm 58 on the Joshua tree i've been told.)
* Use Digital distorsion on a bassdrum
..and you have belgian style techno bassdrum.
*If your still recording on analogue tape (You lucky!)
speed up with clicktrack when recording drums and play back at normal speed.
..and you have a low, fat drumsound.
*Have you ever recorded a tambourine with a condenser and it ended up sounding like a sack of nails? I have, the trick should be to mic from a distance, perhaps use a limiter (Especially when recording to digital.) or use a ribbon. These things have transients that can distort anything!
* An old classic worth telling. "Im Ready Baby Get The Marmaid"
...and you'll have a mixers signal route!
-Input
-Routing
-Buss
-Groups
-Tape
-Monitors
Good to use when getting lost among all the knobs..
* look after the little people
..they might grow big one day and hire the people that once was kind when they were struggling back then.
As we all probably are music freaks of one kind or another this link has some interesting facts about a very famous dog in the music biz.

I've studied sound engineering in Kingston, so i've seen the church and the bank! I guess this made you curious, what the!! has this to do with music recording. Check the link and you'll find out.
