RANGER REPORT - Fri., March 14 2008

“I can see God in a daisy"

- Bob Dylan

Hello gang.  It’s me Ranger Will from up on the hill with the latest dispatch:

Tonight I will be doing a 7:30 solo acoustic show upstairs at Stephie’s at Crazy Carl’s.  After my two sets, The Mighty Manatees will take the stage for the rest of the night.

Three days later, Monday, March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day), Dos Manatees (duo) will be singing their Irish hearts out at The Rising Sun.  Showtime is 7:30pm.

Manatees Fun Fact:  Did you know that recently, the Florida Marlins began recruiting for a new cheerleading squad known as The Manatees which features over-sized-but-limber men?  It’s true! http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/fla/fan_forum/manatees.jsp

On Friday, March 25, it’s the long-awaited Traxx re-opening in Colmar, PA.  Come and check out all of the work that went into the place.

Saturday, April 12, The Mighty Manatees debut at Third & Walnut in Lansdale, PA.  Showtime is 9:30.  Thanks to Herman (who has a good new solo CD called “Peace + Love”)

My son Wyatt, turned me on to www.freerice.com . You answer skill-testing questions and win rice for hungry people.  Check it out.

My daughter Jules, who is studying writing at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver and is a part-time model, recently made the cover of the city paper up there.  Check it out here:    http://losmanatees.com/images/cover.jpg

My daughter Fiona is also a part-time model even though she’s only 3 years old.  Check her out at www.ashers.com  (She is in the fourth picture in the slide show.)

My sister Sue’s husband Steve has been running the web-site for British guitar legend Robin Trower for many years. This week he got me free tickets for my first-ever Trower show at The Fillmore on South St. in Philadelphia.  It was a truly inspirational experience.  The whole band was very “on” and I sensed an extra element to the proceedings.  It wasn’t until later that we learned that Robin had heard of his father’s passing hours before the show.  What a performance!  Thanks to Robin, Laurie, Davey, Pete, Glen and especially my brother Steve.

My mother, Eleanor Hodgson, has been a professional writer for most of her adult life.  She has several novels to her name and has appeared in countless publications.  Her latest finished project is a detailed history of the remarkable Canadian lake town of Minaki, Ontario where she has spent her summers since childhood.  Recently a quiz she created was published in Good Times magazine.  Way to go Ma!

My new comic strip, “Swimmin’ In Wimmin”, will begin running in the bi-monthly newspaper Montgomery County Woman.  Thanks to Gary Soden for his support.

 See you at the shows.
