Psalm 118:24 This is the day the LORD has made.
NOTHING TOO HARD FOR YOU
Many of us have had, or known those who had, experiences which, if things had gone in the usual way, might have resulted in injury, or death. Perhaps we have come upon a serious automobile accident, and missed being involved ourselves by about thirty seconds. Perhaps the doctors have given little hope of recovery from some disease, and then miraculously the trouble disappeared.
In situations like that, we might have seen someone suffering, and said, "There, but for the grace of God, go I." In situations like that it becomes very obvious to us that the hand of God is at work, for we were powerless to do any of it.
When the LORD freed the Children of Israel from Egypt in the days of Moses it was also obvious that it was not their strength, but His, that overcame the chariots of Pharaoh. It was His hand holding back the waters of the Red Sea, and then releasing them at just the right time to gain complete victory.
But nowhere is it more apparent that the victory is the Lord's than in His victory over death and hell. As the Psalmist long ago declared (118:24): "This is the day the LORD has made." He got no help from the human race.
O stronger Thou than death and hell,
Where is the foe Thou canst not quell?
What heavy stone Thou canst not roll
From off the prisoned, suff'ring soul!
