John 11:25-27 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" "Yes, Lord," she told him, "I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world."

REDEEMER KING: FOREVER (1)

Last week our dishwasher broke down. The car was leaking coolant all over the garage floor and the radiator needed to be replaced. The old adage says, "Nothing lasts forever." Surely this is true of the things of this world. The brightest and shiniest, the newest and best will eventually fade. It is sad sometimes to look around at things we enjoy and know that these too shall pass--the places we have known and loved, the sights we have seen and that have made us glad.

This is why the "forever" of eternal life in Christ is such a treasure to us. As Jesus told Martha, "Whoever lives and believes in me will never die." Think of that. Although you see change and decay all around, YOU will live forever. Your body will be raised. Death will have no power over you. You will be with Christ and all believers for days without number in the new heavens and new earth, the home of righteousness. "In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am" (John 14:2-3).

Forever is a long time. Thanks be to God!

"I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins,
And I look for the resurrection of the dead
And the life of the world to come. Amen."
