Happenings at the Inn in September

In our efforts to impove on your sleeping comfort.  Guests will now be deaming away on Comphy sheets.  These sheets were designed to improve the sleeping experience. Since we spend a large part of our time sleeping; it only goes to reason, we should foster that experience.  Carriage Way is the better way to stay!

All of these events are free and open to the public.

Recipes and Tips
Not your Mother's Oatmeal                                         2 servings

2 cups water

pinch of salt

1 cup old-fashioned oats

1/4 cup dried fruit (raisins, dates, cranberries)

1 teaspoon ground spice such as cinnamon, allspice, anise seed, cloves, nutmeg, green cardamom or a combination of them.

Bring water and salt to a boil in a medium saucepan.  Add the oats, fruit and spices.  Cook and stir occasionaly for 5-7 minutes.  If desired serve with milk, brown sugar or maple syrup.

Next time you are in town, check out the St. Augustine Spice and Tea Exchange on Hypolita Street.

Cleaning tip:  White wine will take out red wine stains on clothing if applied immediately.  Club soda and cold water are also helpful.  Blot with an absobent cloth and then sprinkle salt onto the stain and let stand for 1-2 minutes.  Repeat if the stain remains. Apply a laundry presoak before washing.  On carpet: try club soda or water and blot, then mix baking soda and water in a 3 to 1 ratio and scrub into the stain with your spouse's toothbrush. Let dry and vacuum.  Don's forget to put the tootbrush back!

New Cookbook Request:  The recipes are coming in but we need more as we put together the second cookbook that includes the best family recipes from our guests here at the Carriage Way.  It took us nearly fifteen years to put together the first cookbook, so we hope to have this one completed within a year.  The cookbook will have one recipe on a page and we would like you to provide a short story that complements the recipe.  Send us only your best and if we print your recipe, we will send you a complementary copy.

Where is Larry Now!

He survived teensitting for friends in Vail and has returned to the safety of Steamboat Springs to continue to save the area lakes from the vicious exotic mussels, which of course helps cover his campground hookup costs.   Since the summer season is waining he has returned to his roots as a carpenter to help a friend raise the walls on a new foundation.  The summer season is short, so it is important to take advantage of the unfrozen ground and get the structure dried in.  When he is not working he has managed to take in some bluegrass concerts and fly fishing.  He misses everyone and wishes you well.
