Hello Firstname

Wednesday 19 June

Next Wednesday we welcome Jane Rees ARPS, who will be presenting her talk – From Tuscon Arizona to Yosemite, California and Beyond.

Jane's main interest as a photographer is wildlife but she also enjoys travel. Jane gained her RPS Associateship in Nature with a panel on the Wildlife of Virginia. .
She has travelled extensively in America over many years including during the 10 years when she lived in Virginia. She has visited many of the National Parks and one of her favourites is Yellowstone. She has been there twice during the winter and one part of her talk is about these two very different visits.

Jane is also lucky enough to have an archive of photographs taken by her grandfather when he travelled the States and Canada in 1902. During this trip he visited a goldmine in the Chuckwalla Mountains in California and she has always wanted to retrace his footsteps and in 2015 finally had a chance to do so during a road trip from Tucson, AZ to Tillamook, OR, which also took in Joshua Tree NP, Sequoia NP and Yosemite, and this makes up the other part of her presentation.

New Website for BPS
BPS now has a new website which has been created for us by club member Matt de-Beger. The site address hasn't changed but the appearance has, with areas of the site easier to find and view. The Members' Area is still there, under the Membership tab with access being exacty as it was previously (see foot of this newsletter for log-in details). Many of the pages have a totally new look, being both more up to date and much more user friendly, and you can even copy the BPS programme directly into your own calender! Why not visit the site and have a look for yourself - www.bristolphoto.org.uk
A huge thank you to Matt for all the hours of work he has put in to making this a site fit for 2019.

Trumpet Blower's Corner
The London Salon
For those who are unfamiliar with this Salon, it is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the UK, particularly valuing "new work with modern and creative ideas”. It is completely independent of FIAP, PSA or anything else. Membership of the London Salon is by invitation only (and includes our esteemed John Chamberlin) but every year there is an opportunity for the hoi polloi (you and me) to try their luck. To quote Photography News 59, “For many, having an acceptance in the Salon is a high point in their photographic life: winning a medal is a bonus”. So, on that note, many congratulations must go to two BPS members who were successful this year: Peter Brisley with one acceptance, and Sue O’Connell with three acceptances including a Gold medal.

Sue's Gold Medal winning image - Blue Boy

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.

Studio Bookings
Would all members please note: before you plan your shoot and book your model, you should check whether the studio/clubroom will be free.
