Greetings friends,

Nothing especially monumental to report on today.  Friday is the Muslim Holy Day in Afghanistan (like Sunday in the states) and since it lands on the half-way point of our stay here, we used today to take a break – a day off – from the constant hustle of our week and also to give our host’s staff some time to spend away from us and with their families.

After a later breakfast than usual to get some much needed rest, we started the day with some fantastic fellowship in the guest house.  We sang together to a few songs by the Brian Davis Band, News Boys, and David Crowder and then listened online to the message from the new Five Guys series Jim Burgen began last week at FCC (which we missed because we were sitting in a 777 somewhere over the Atlantic).

You know how sometimes you hear a message at church and you kinda feel bad for everyone else in the auditorium because you KNOW the message was written specifically for YOU?  Well that’s how we felt listening to the message on John The Baptist… it was written specifically for our team in Afghanistan, every word for just such a time as this.  After listening to the message we had a very passionate and touching discussion followed by some truly inspirational prayer time.

After a break for lunch and some time spent journaling, reading, and napping, we headed to Chicken Street (Kabul’s tourist shopping bazaar) where a few team members contributed to the health and welfare of the Afghan carpet industry.

Then it was back to the guest house for another brief rest break before heading out to dinner since staff had the day off.  Our host treated us to dinner at a Lebanese restaurant that’s a local and team favorite together with a friend who recently moved to Kabul permanently from the Pacific Northwest.  Together we had a great evening of laughter and sharing and are ready to hit the ground running as we resume our normal activities and pace again tomorrow.

Please continue to pray for our team as we engage for the last half of our time here.

Even on our day off, we try never to forget the real reason we're here.
