Hello, Firstname |
Newsletter Copy - Please! |
A big thankyou to the members who rallied to the call for articles to fill the newsletter and so enable me to keep it going through these troubled times - these last few issues of have existed to a great extent because of their contributions. I have now run out of articles, so I am going to need more contributions if the newsletter is to keep going.
If you have anything you think other members would like to know about, such as special on-line events or exhibitions, photographic hints, tips and tricks, etc., or just your experiences of lockdown, please let me know at the usual address: bpsnewsletter@bristolphoto.org.uk

I thought that in these weird times we should start this issue with a smile, this one was provided by the stunt pilot who created smiles over Bristol earlier this week. |
Next week we welcome back Rosemary Wilman HonFRPS who will be judging Part2 of the Annual Projected Image Competition. We saw Part 1 a couple of weeks ago and although this was the first time we had had judging via Zoom, it was a superb evening with Rosemary offering a very constructive critique of each image, finishing up with announcing the winners in the Club, Intermediate and Nature sections. This week it is the chance for the Advanced section, which should see some wonderful images, finishing up with Rosemary announcing the awards for Best Travel, People, Action, Landscape and Monochrome images and culminating in the award for the Best Image overall.

We have had two successful DI Zoom meetings and are looking forward to the next one on Monday, 8 June. All members are welcome to attend online. As usual if you wish to show off of what you have been doing or have questions to ask about any of your images please send them to me for presentation. Now that members are getting used to the Zoom protocol I hope some discussion will be possible.
Because I have to arrange all of them in a single folder in some kind of order for ease of presenting smoothly please send the digital images to reach me by Sunday 7 June, 6pm. As before the images should be JPG format, sRGB colour space and keep the image size to 1600 x 1200 pixels as in the club competitions. The size restriction is not strict but it allows me to receive the images as attachments within the 20 Mb limit per email. Alternatively send them to me via Dropbox. Please prefix the filename with 01, 02, 03 etc. so that they will be shown in that order if you wish.

BPS Website - Important Information |
With BPS website undergoing maintenance and a refresh on Mon 8 June, one of the many things that will change is the way you log into the members' section (Members' Portal) of the website. There will no longer be a default username and password for all, you will have your own individual password.
Please note, you will not be able to do this until the site maintenance has been completed, which should be on Monday evening, 8 June. If you can't remember your Membership Number, it can be found at the head of this (and every) newsletter.

Mini Mono Only Competition |
There is a slight correction to the article last week about this competition: the image Sorrow was credited to Steve Taylor, this should in fact have been credited to Keith Wood - sorry chaps.
To watch a digital version of the judging, you will need to tune into YouTube on Saturday, 6 June, just click on this link at 2pm.

President's Cup & Not The Garmston Bowl Competitions |
Closing date 10 June.
We plan to run the President's Cup competition, which is for a panel of three projected images, in the same way as it is presently constituted. So it will run with the rules as already set out, which include a bar on entrants holding a qualification of ARPS or above or its equivalent, along with the winners over the last three years.
Some members have asked for guidance on the panel entry. You submit just the three images to make up your panel. There is clearly the expectation that as a panel the three images show some thematic content, but the images do not have to be exactly the same size or orientation. The processing of your entry itself constructs a triptych image. What is presented on the night are the three images individually along with the triptych as a horizontal line of the three images to be seen as the panel. So it is important that, if needed, your images are numbered 1 to 3, left to right in the panel. Clearly when the triptych image itself is projected the three images within it are smaller than when projected individually!
The ‘Not the Garmston Bowl’ is a competition, which will be a for a panel of three projected images run in the same manner as the President's Cup but with entry limited to members who are over qualified or barred from The Cup, and to give the keen panellists who cannot enter the President's Cup a chance to show their wares and collect the ‘Not the Garmston Bowl’ award. Entries must be made in the usual way for PI competitions.
The entry date for both competitions is now 10 June and the date for judging is 24 June.

It's that lady again! Sue O'Connell has been awarded a Gold medal for a Nature image and two ribbons in Open and Travel in two recent salons - is there no stopping her!
Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.
Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
