Next Wednesday sees the start of the print competition season with Round 1 which is being judged by David Gibbins ARPS CPAGB AFIAP. This is what David has to say about his judging:
"Judging is one of my real passions; I absolutely love judging, whether it is a club competition or a major exhibition. I have been a photographic judge since 1983, starting as a Supplementary judge and graduating to the N&EMPF senior list and finally to the PAGB Alliance List. Judging can be a challenge but at the same time I feel honoured and humble at being invited to comment on somebody else's work. I would like to hope that I also provide encouragement to the photographer. When I started judging I felt it was important that I at least achieved a standard in photography that people could recognise. To this end I decided to apply to the RPS and also enter exhibitions. I was delighted to become an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society (ARPS) and gain my AFIAP through international exhibitions. The challenge to achieve these distinctions forced me to review the way I took photographs – another inspiration to my photography." |
Monday 13th is the monthly meeting of the DI Group and all club members are welcome. This is an informal meeting that involves the "audience" so please bring along images to show, either just to show off or to ask for help. Images can be either prints or projected (jpegs on memory sticks only please)
Following on from
the last meeting, Ashwin would like to make the ten or fifteen minutes talk on
technical subjects relating to Photoshop or
similar software a regular feature of the DI meetings. Next Monday he hopes to
talk about one of the two fundamental techniques used to enhance images -
selections, followed by layers and then layer masks in the following meeting. There
are many ways of doing the same thing in Photoshop and it is worth exploring them. He would also like to
invite others to share their favourite techniques in future meetings. |
Arena Photographers' Exhibition
|
Further to last week's item on the forthcoming Arena exhibition at Sidcot School, I now have a bit more information about the actual exhibition:
Several members of the Arena Group will be exhibiting framed prints at the Sidcot Arts Centre from the 1 November until 13 December. The exhibition will feature work from Tim Rudman, Tony and Eva Worobiec, Sue Brown and John Chamberlin amongst others. The subject matter will be varied and will feature current work and images will be available for purchase. The Centre is situated in the grounds of Sidcot School which is on the A38 just beyond Churchill. The centre is a beautiful modern space ideally situated to showing various art works. Entrance is free but visitors should check the centre's website for opening times. Tickets are also available for two talks which will take place whilst the exhibition is on show; details of how to obtain tickets were in Issue 110 of the newsletter. |
