Hello Firstname

Wednesday 1 May

Next week we are getting extra value, in fact we are getting what is commonly known as BOGOF. We are being treated to a BPS double act when Sue O'Connell ARPS EFIAP/p DPAGB BPE5*and Peter Brisley ARPS DPAGB will present their talk More Travels Towards The Edge featuring more out-of-the-way people and places - from camel herders in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia to the nomadic Rabari people of Gujarat, with a visit to the world’s largest wetland,
the Pantanal of Brazil. It will be a colour and monochrome dpi presentation plus a display of prints. Peter & Sue are long-standing members of BPS and keen travellers with a taste for less visited destinations. Their (photographic) similarities end in Lightroom, however, where each tends to produce very different results. And while Peter's first love is the monochrome print, Sue is a happy digital "salonista" with many awards to her name. She is also a four-times award winner in Travel Photographer of the Year. Peter & Sue are Fotospeed Ambassadors.

Examples of Peter and Sue's work can be seen on their websites:

Annual Projected Image Competition
Next Wednesday, 1 May, is the closing date for the Annual Projected Image Competition. This year's competition will be judged by Martin Fry FRPS APAGB EFIAP/b AV-FIAP.
The competition consists of the usual Club, Intermediate and Advanced levels and in addition, there is a Nature section, which does not distinguish between Club, Intermediate and Advanced entrants but is open to all.  Anyone wishing to enter the Nature section must indicate the entries with the appropriate identification (see rules in your BPS Handbook p24-28).

Members may submit a maximum of 5 PI images or prints into each competition. These must be numbered in the entrant’s preferred order, as all image 5s may be excluded if the total entry in a competition exceeds 120 images.

In addition to the usual awards at each level, the judge is asked to select the Best Travel, People, Action, Landscape, Monochrome and Creative pictures from the whole entry (i.e. all levels).  One or more of the Best Travel etc awards may well go to an image that gains a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.  A trophy will be presented for the best image in each competition at the AGM.  The trophy will be awarded for one of the 1st place images.

Creative Workshops
The first set of creative workshops which took place over the past month has been completed, in my opinion, successfully. Most of those who attended discovered how layers and tools in Photoshop work together to create new images, all with generous the help from the experts in their field Barry Mead and Mike Martin with help from Gerry Gill. I am indebted to them for helping, coaxing and stimulating members to understand their techniques. Whereas they cannot teach imagination it did not stop Joanne to let her imagination run wild to create a simple but wonderful image shown here, all from scratch. All it needs is an equally creative title and the best one in the editor’s opinion will win delicious chocolate biscuits at the DI meeting. Send in your suggestions to me or the editor. Watch this space for further workshops in future.

Trumpet Blower's Corner
Well done to Graham Pears who was recently awarded a PSA Silver medal in the Scottish International for the Best Wildlife image in the exhibition with his image of Brown Hares Boxing, which is reproduced below:

Well done also to Sue O’Connell who received 4 awards in the recent Photo Art Monte Circuit including a Gold medal.

Salon acceptances: BPS photographers are now achieving large numbers of salon acceptances and constraints on time and space mean we can't include them all. So please only advise of awards or other milestones.

Contrary to popular belief, I do not possess psychic powers and need you to tell me if you've had successes. If you want to blow your own trumpet (or someone else's), then this is the place to do it. Please let me know and I'll include details in a future issue.
