John 21:12 Jesus said to them, "Come and have breakfast."
BREAKFAST
What was it like, do you think, eating breakfast on the shore with the risen Savior? We so often pray, "Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest," but this time it was He who invited them to be His guest, just as He had hosted the two at Emmaus. Those two had recognized Him in the breaking of bread, and now these seven knew that it was Jesus, so no one asked for identification as He came and distributed the bread and fish that were cooked.
It was the same Savior, all right, but He was changed. He was no longer looking ahead to drinking "the cup" of suffering, no longer sorrowful to the point of death. Now He was alive forevermore and had the keys of hell and death! He was no longer in the valley of humiliation, but was gloriously exalted, and given a name which was above every name, a name to which every knee would bow.
In one way, however, He was not changed: He was still their brother (human), even though entering back into the full use of His divine powers. Yes, and He was still their friend, world without end! And this God-man is still our Friend also. He understands our troubles, temptations, terrors, needs and desires better than we do ourselves. He loved us enough to give His life for us, and He will cause all things to work together for our good, as long as the earth endures. And when we close our eyes for the last time, He will wake us to breakfast on the shore of eternity with Him.
Then the glory
Then the rest
Then the Sabbath peace unbroken
Then the splendor
Then the life
Then the new creation singing ...
