SLO Natural Foods Co-op Board Update

In order to offer our Member-Owners and community more freshly prepared deli items, more selection and variety, community space, and cafe seating, Gwen and the Board continue a feasibility review of the former Fresh and Easy space.

Should the concept go further, the Board looks forward to convening Member-Owners and other stakeholders to present the concepts and seek input. Watch for a meeting announcement.

Co+op Basics

We've had a great response to the lower prices we are able to offer on many of the foods and products people use everyday with our Co+op Basics program. National Co+op Grocers (NCG) is adding more products to the program as vendors become aware of it, so you can expect to see more name brands participating in the coming months.

Currently, many of the Co+op Basics items are from Field Day, the house brand of our main grocery distributor, UNFI. All of Field Day's products are either verified or enrolled in the Non-GMO Project, the majority of product ingredients are sourced in the USA, and organic ingredients are used to produce USDA Certified products whenever possible. Many products are now in BPA-free packaging as well.

Field Day products represent an excellent value for the price and with Co+op Basics, these prices are now lower than ever!

Thank You, to Isla Vista Food Co-op

Last week, Steve and Tyler of Isla Vista Food Co-op came to SLO to assist us with implementing another new NCG program that will be launching in early April (stay tuned!). They were here at the Co-op for two days and met with General Manager Gwen, Point of Sales Coordinator Patrick, and our department buyers. Our team learned valuable strategies for category management and review to help with better product selection for our Member-Owners and shoppers.

Our friends at Isla Vista Co-op exemplify the principle of "Cooperation Among Cooperatives," and we really appreciate their help. Be sure to stop by their friendly co-op in Isla Vista when you're heading south. It's not to be missed!

Co-op Board Meetings: You're Invited!

We encourage Co-op Member-Owners to attend the monthly Co-op Board Meetings, now being held on the first Thursday after the 18th of each month. Each meeting opens with a public comment period so if you would like to speak, please arrive a few minutes early. Meetings begin at 5:30 PM and are now being held at the SLO County Builders Exchange (address and map below).

We hope you will come and get to know your Board and learn about your Co-op's doings and plans for the future. This is a great way to be informed, share your ideas, and get involved.

We currently have two open seats on the Board. If you are interested in serving, you may download an application via the link on this page. If you have any questions, please call or come by the Co-op.
