Re: Council Debate of Pesticide By-law on Wednesday, May 19th!
Toronto Council will begin debating the pesticide by-law on
Wednesday, May 19th starting at 2:00 pm
at Toronto City Hall, Council Chamber, 100 Queen Street West.
The pesticide industry will be out in force at this vitally important council session, lobbying councillors to weaken the pesticide by-law by allowing the chemical spraying of Toronto's lawns, golf courses, parks, playing fields, and cemeteries when there is as little as 5% weed coverage. This will render the pesticide by-law meaningless. Two city committees (Economic Development and Parks) have already recommended the by-law be so amended.
Toronto needs a strong by-law that bans the cosmetic use of pesticides in order to protect our health, our children, and our environment.
Come out and show your support for a strong by-law on Wednesday afternoon (the actual vote on the by-law may take place on Thursday, May 20th depending on how long Wednesday's debate goes on).
